What nonsense. Who's to say that another striker (a.n.other) may not have scored twice as many goals which might have propelled us to the top of the table?

Whilst I have absolutely no problem with Nick Maynard making his future decisions for the good of himself and his family (and no I wouldn't go to wigan either!) and I also think the fans have some blame in this, calling for him to be 'honest' and then whining when his honesty isn't exactly the honesty they wanted to hear.

However his form has been shocking for most of this season and he has been dropped for 'football reasons' those of you who say different I wouldn't want you to run an under 7's sunday side.

He has shown no passion or commitment on the pitch for a long while now, He is a want away player who has created a cloud over this whole season, He is a man and he is not bigger than the club, I would say he has a negative effect on 90% of the fans now and likely the players around him as well.

I have no problem that he has turned down moves, I just believe he should be no where near the team now.
 
First of all he turns down Leicester, now it looks like he may turn down Wigan, fair enough, not the most fashionable of clubs, so what his he and his agent after, a top club, no chance, no they are looking to line there pockets in the summer.
So what would you do with a player, that really doesn't want to play for you, put him on the bench, by doing that you deprive another player, leave him out altogether, or play him and hope he gets his goalscoring form back, tough one for Derek, lets see what happens.
 
if true i cant really blame Nicky for turning down wigan, but the question is where will he go? We cant afford to have (on his day) our best player warming the bench. Yes i agree with most other posters that hid day has been rare this season. I still think in the last day or so west brom swansea fulham maybe will make a move, but Nicky please show some respect to the club the fans that have stood by you and given your chance to shine. You had the chance to be a proper city legend, i understand you want to further your career but holding out to the end of the season and walking out just for a big signing on check is poor. Personally would love him to stay but if he insists on going to "a bigger club" then for gods sake go im sure your agent already knows exactly who is interested and who will pay you what stop taking the pee out of us and make your move.
 
Perhaps he's waiting on a lower Prem team that aren't likely to be in the mix for relegation come the end of the season.

If so let's hope someone like Fulham are interested

Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard is considering an offer to join Premier League Wigan Athletic.

City manager Derek McInnes and the club's board of directors have given Maynard permission to talk to the Latics after they tabled a bid of around £2 million for the transfer-listed forward.

The two clubs are close to reaching a fee and negotiations are ongoing. The ball is now in Maynard's court.

But it is understood City's eight-goal top-scorer has no immediate plans to talk to the Lancashire club, even though McInnes had given his players the day off today.

If the two clubs agree a deal today, any transfer will then be dependent upon Maynard, who would still have to agree personal terms with Wigan.

City chairman Colin Sexstone confirmed: "We are in advanced talks with Wigan and I'm sure we can come to an agreement with them.

"There is obviously the matter of Nicky deciding whether he wants to go to Wigan and whether he can come to terms with them.

"At the moment, he doesn't want to sign a new contract here. With one week to go before the window shuts, if he hasn't signed a new contract by then, then we have no option. If we are going to do business it has to be done this week.
 
DelboyMc - Not according to the Evil Post, although when it says City's eight-goal top-scorer has no immediate plans to talk to the Lancashire club it doesn't sound very hopeful that a deal will be done !

There is probably no problem with Nicky in the dressing room but the nastiness of some supporters probably meant that DM knew playing him would reflect on him...

As it happens, I think that there will be plenty of interest in the next week and that Nicky will go somewhere, if nothing else, to get away from the rabid so called "supporters" like Red Robin who are out for blood cos NM didn't sign and sacrifice his first born to the club as well.

No problem with NM wanting to move on,it is the manner is which he has gone about it.The club looked after him when he had his mishap.
If he new he wanted out,why not say it,not keep dangleing a carrot to the club.

Yes Wigan are likely to come down this season,so not a good move,but it is very unlikly a mid to upper premiership side will give him a go.

I just think he could have been more up front regards his desire to move,at least city could have put him to market a lot earlier.
 
Wigan have stressed they have only made an "informal enquiry" about Bristol City's Nicky Maynard and not an official bid.

The wheels appeared to be very much in motion regarding Maynard's potential move to the DW Stadium when a statement on the City website yesterday said the npower Championship outfit had given the Latics permission to speak to the 25-year-old, adding that "discussions to finalise a transfer fee with the Premier League club are at an advanced stage."

However, Wigan today released a statement of their own confirming that "contrary to heavy media speculation, no official bid has been made to Bristol City for striker Nicky Maynard and there have been no official talks with the player or the club."

In the statement, Latics chief executive Jonathan Jackson said: "An informal enquiry was made as to the player's availability last week, but that really is as far as it goes at this stage.

"We are therefore disappointed by suggestions that talks are in an advanced stage.

"Some reports even suggest the player has turned (down) a move to Wigan Athletic, when in fact, no bid has been lodged."

They obviously don't want to be seen as not good enough for NM so this seems like damage limitation. He snubs them
so they pretend they were never interested to save face. Think we can discount them now don't you??

Red Robin - I think the fact that NM refused to sign a contract last year was a pretty good indication that he was never going to put pen to paper but senior management at the club seem to have ignored the warning signs.

As for the club looking after him when he was injured, what were they supposed to do with their main asset, tear up his contract ?

As Prem has also pointed out the insurance policy would have covered his period of absence.

Rather than try and offload him, why can't we use him as part of a payment for a decent academy player?

Sure, we're in no position to be taking on potential talent when we're looking at relegation, but I'm sure Everton would part with a highly-rated, yet young player for Maynard and some cash.

Why would they have to be currently at the club? and yes if Pitman had been persevered with in the same way as Maynard was in his first season, whats to say he wouldn't, every time he has found the net after coming on as a sub and looking good he has found himself back on the bench. No wonder he looks shorn of confidence.

Maynard has been taking up valuable space all season and doesn't even want to be here.

To all those who are adamant Maynard will be gracing the upper tier of the premier league and scoring for fun, even possible England quality. You are miles off!

and I'll have a friendly charity bet on it if you don't believe me.
 
There seems to be very mixed opinions on the NM situation. What I dont understand is that I am sure most of us looking for 'promotion' would be on our best behaviour and make every effort to ensure that we were showing our best performances to impress any prospective new employer.
