I'm not blaming them, comm, but I'm not sticking my head in the sand and saying it's not happening all the time out there either. My brother in law is a case in point. And if they're allowed to be bone idle in school, why the bloody hell do you assume they'll be any different when they get out?

Same as us mate. We were no different.

Bri without being rude or personal.

Do you have parametres that you have to/choose to when looking for a job.
I'm not answering for Bri, but if you are looking for a general answer from somebody who has bipolar then I just don't declare my illness to anybody, ever.

Some people with bipolar may look for shifts at certain times of the day, I know somebody who normally always seems to be going through a mania stage (that's when you have loads of energy, don't sleep, mind races etc) and always works nightshift. It suits him down to the ground as he would struggle and probably couldn't hold down a 9-5 job.

How do you mean fella. Do you mean like government guidelines ie have to accept any job? Or do you mean by me knowing what's good for me personally so applying the parameters myself?

Same families are on 2nd generation claiming benefits , knock out a load of kids and live on the benefit money, why they want to work if the rest of us pick up the bill

You are just trying to put a spanner in the works. Your thinking is kind of correct. But ffs man. I am having a serious conversation with the lads.
.
unusal i know. Happens once in a while.

So you say you spend 6 months uk. 6 months asia?

Rich daddy?

I worked 6 days a week, day off Sunday clean my van, cut the grass etc, let the unemployed come round to do it for me, am fcukin working for them.
I had one guy ask me if I had any work for him said he lost his job and needed money, said he could rub down some woodwork and give it a coat of paint, but it had to be on a Sunday because it was the only day we not open, he said 'I cant do it on a Sunday i play golf'

Ok mate. I am not even gonna claim i know anything about this. Only what i have read on here.

Dont dig me out on this one. You have it along with others. What drives you to work where others take the easy benefit route?

The girls probably?

Which brings me back to the op. You would be apart from them to make the money for their happiness.

Am i wrong?
Don't exactly know mate, it's just the way I am and I haven't known any other way. I've got a good family and everybody in it has always gone out to work, so it's just the way it is. Sorry it's a **** answer, didn't know what other way to explain it.

My daughters are always in my mind and I enjoy spending money on them, but to say I go to work every morning for them wouldn't be true either. I go because that's what you have to do in life to pay your bills.

Totally agree with you Sid, it's a disgrace to our society that people are leaving school not being able to read and write, the blame lies partially with the parents but mostly on the very low standards these days for teaching qualifications.
When my daughter was at school she came home with some work all ticked as correct but spelled wrong, I took it down to the school and reduced the teacher to tears in front of her headmaster, I was told that the spelling didn't matter and it was ideas they were after, what a load of crap, imagine applying for a job with incorrect spelling on the application form, I personally would put the application form in the bin or send it back to them telling them to re-apply when they can spell correctly.
I read an article the other day which said that kids are starting school and they can't string a sentence together, what are the parents doing? obviously not reading to them or preparing them for school.
Mobile phones have a lot to answer for with the predictive text and short cuts but to my mind we are producing a nation of morons.

You're just making this up as you go along now.

Half of it's down to education IMHO. I have come across plenty of people who are semi-literate and have their chances curtailed as a result. Why are the schools letting them out like that? You can get by without many school qualifications, but reading, writing and basic maths are essential.

Sorry Sid, but I know a guy from Vilnius, Lithuania who hardly speaks a word of English, and certainly can't write it, who's earning a pretty decent wage sweeping the sea front at Scarborough. So why can't ours do it? Didn't they bother turning up for schooling that we paid for either? That's the rub, isn't it - at what age did they learn to be freeloaders?

See. This is why i was dubious about this thread. Then thought **** it i will ask even at the risk of offending someone.

Let me first explain. I have to my knowledge never met a person with bi polar. It seems a recent term to me. So i havnt got a clue

But 83 now seems to be doing well (for a boring office dweller)

It's a spectrum mate where everybody is different, everybody has different coping mechanisms. Working environments effect us in different ways, some have unavoidable patterns which disrupt work. We both have bipolar but beyond the the black and white mania/depression is an ocean of gray. Despite us being diagnosed with the same illness it's likely to effect us in completely different ways and therefore effect the way we live our life in completely different ways. Then on top of that we've the differences in life style. like family, professionally, even diet, and because of our illness dealing with those manifests in different way.

I don't think Com's question has a simple answer. You certainly need to take each individual's illness on it's own merit.

It's always been around mate, the only thing that changes is the way it's perceived. Take some of the the craziest figures in history. Churchill, Dickens, Beethoven and Tolstoy for example. All were simply perceived as mad. But shrinks tend to think in present day they'd be diagnosed with Bipolar. Michelangelo and van Gogh, like the others were perceived as mad, but today Michelangelo would be diagnosed with Autism and Van Gogh Schizophrenia.

Basically all these things have always existed and we just known as madness for what ever reason but as years go by and more is learnt Mental health has simply sub categorised and sub categorised. In 20 years times I've no doubt my illness with be sub categorised again, more than likely sending me into a completely different category of illness to say SAFC83(but maybe not). We've got the same illness now but that could well change. The mind is a vast undiscovered universe after all.

If you are talking about the Conservatory company I had, that's gone mate. After that happened in April, I tried to crack on with it but they was just to much going on and I ended up wrapping it in. Big shame because I was onto something very big, I had a top engineering firm who I was working alongside and they were producing my drawings. I was very close to getting my method patented. I've been talking to a lad recently about going 50/50 with him on a business, maybe jump back into the Conservatory's, not sure. It won't be until next year now anyways.

For the time being, I am living off savings and money I'm making on the side.

Does that mean when I come to Thailand, I will be the first person with bipolar you have met? Class.
