Impossible to read without a tear in your eye. Nothing compared to what his family felt, but I remember the sense of loss when he died. His daughter said that Saints was all he talked about in his last year, so I'm glad it made him happy and that he had the JPT victory at Wembley as his reward.
What a wonderful legacy he has left us. His spirit will live forever in our hearts as Saints fans. The debt owed to him is one that we will remember gladly forever.
Five years already!!! Wow. Thank you Markus. Any reason to post this...
We as a club owe so much to Markus and his family. It is also true we owe a debt to Cortese. Love him or hate him he did a good job for us. The CBK's of this world are entitled to their own opinions, although at times as I see it, it is a very narrow and one sided one...Namely CBK's. It is nice though to remember anniversary's such as this....has it really been 5 years...Have we really had 4 managers in that time? Now where will we be at the 10 year anniversary? Would be nice to look into a crystal ball wouldn't it?
I believe my viewpoint is possibly far from "narrow" and encapsulates information beyond the realms of what people read on message boards and in tabloid newspapers. I don't hate Cortese, I don't love him either. He did some good things, some average things and some awful things during his time at Saints. I believe he left at the right time, I think we could have been in huge trouble if he had stayed longer. We will never know what Markus could have added to the club long term, whether he could have worked well with Cortese or may even have fallen out with him. From all the evidence available, he seemed like a really nice genuine man & I'm thankful he pulled us out of the mire.
I don't think he'd be impressed with us selling all our best players after one good Premier season, but I think you're right also. RIP big man
Wonderful thing he did for our club , never be forgotten . I wonder what Markus would think of the likes of Lallana and co this summer .
