Thats just about as many fans who think Cardiff are a good team too Anyway, as for PC problems, from personal experience, the issue with viruses and malware is people installing things they don't actually read when installing. People add new programs they think they need, and during the installation process it offers to install this toolbar, that toolbar, this program, but they are so interested in the actual program they are installing that they just fly through the installation process and add everything without thinking. It bloats a PC. Same as when you first have your PC, for me every-time I do a fresh install, all the bloat comes off from the get go. The only things installed on my PC are things I want on there, no toolbars, no nothing. I often run through my installed programs list and remove anything that does not ring any bells, which to be honest is very rare. There are many problems from people opening unsafe emails. If you don't recognise an email, don't read it, don't click its links, just bin in. I have about 10 different email addresses for this reason, I use one for social aspects, 1 for my bills, 1 for banking and so on, that way its easy to judge spam mail, after all if I get a banking email sent to my social email, its definitely spam. My main use though is an email for random stuff, if I sign up to something that I am not interested in, or am not 100% sure about, I use my random email address, no email ever sent to that email gets opened.
I've always used Norton, never had a problem, McCafee though were very slow. Why is Norton of a low opinion here? My renewal is due soon so I'd be interested to find out from those with a better understanding etc.
Good man We shouldn't get too smug though I started with Ubuntu but moved to Arch after a few years. You can't beat a bit of rolling release!
Always used Norton and never had a problem. I am very much like swanselona. Multiple emails and always careful when downloading.
just finished with Norton as it has expired. I never buy anti virus as i always use free trials or if not i use panda free...I never have a problem....
Buy a Mac...... Had mine for a year now - I've not had a single problem with it, whereas there were always issues and updates to deal with on my Windows machine. I'll never go back.
I have only good to say regarding OSX, I have it on one of my laptops, but I do have Internet security as well, but if you want a free internet security then Zonealarm have had very good results in lab tests, their free Anitivirus and Firewall 2015 is a very good program for free............... Zonealarm :http://www.zonealarm.co.uk/security/en-us/zonealarm-free-antivirus-firewall.htm please log in to view this image The above chart shows how all the AV software's compare with Norton........... That list means nothing if it is my mother using the computer, I swear she'd manage to get it infected with the power turned off. First line of defence is yourself. She refuses to pay for any security still has XP
Whatever Internet security you choose or prefer, always have a tool like malwarebytes as additional insurance, tools such as malwarebytes are more specific with Trojan and root malware, and can be installed alongside your main firewall and virus software. Here's the Link for the free version of Malwarebytes: https://www.malwarebytes.org/lp/lp4/02/?gclid=CIuh6d6g38ACFVMRtAod7BoAiQ
Thanks for all the advice everybody. I downloaded the free Malwarebytes,as suggested, tried opening this site and the malware alarm was still coming up,but with subsequent openings of the site it hasn't appeared again so far anyway!
agree with dragon. i had a £400 windows laptop, it was ok for about a year, then it started slowing down. it always seemed to get viruses and hitches, and build quality isn't the best. it became such hassle that i gave up on it last year. what a pile of crap. i spent what some would consider a hefty sum, £1200, on the new macbook and haven't had a single problem since, plus its top drawer my family don't touch anything windows nowadays. i know someone who has had a mac since 2008 which is still fine. bought a warranty but will probably never use it. apple = expensive, but no hassle (5 computers experience), longevity windows = cheap, but plenty of hassle, usually pack it in within 3 years if you are lucky (3 computers experience), then you need to buy another
Hmmm... Built my own PC in 2010, still destroys any Mac in performance and it is unbelievably better build quality. You get what you pay for lads, £1200 laptop will give the same build quality, reliability and performance as any equal price MacBook at that time. Like I said, I could infect all of your Macs easily, get any passwords you use and there is nothing on the system to stop me doing it. All systems have their flaws but Apple excel in the marketing department and nothing else, it'll be a long time until they can do what other systems can.
Like Project I built my own PC, but in 2011, still runs like a dream. It is also a bit unfair to compare a £400 laptop to a £1,200 laptop, its like comparing a Ford and a Mercedes lol. Also windows v mac is not cheap vs expensive, the difference is there are cheap options for Windows, but if you want the same spec as your mac, you pay the same price with windows. As with everything in life, you get what you pay for. I paid £900 for my PC. What exactly did you get for your £1,200? I would hope its pretty damn good.
Depends what you need it for. In my work I need QLab (not available on Windows), Logic, Keynote and Final Cut Pro. Works beautifully, looks and sounds beautiful.
awesome, retina display, really fast, big screen etc plus it will last ages……. i agree its a fair wedge, but windows are hassle, and require time and money to keep them in useable condition…….
