Southampton have been taken over by a company backed by Serb media mogul Dragan Solak.

The Premier League club confirmed Sport Republic has bought Chinese businessman Gao Jisheng's 80% stake.

quite pleased for them actually, quick google and the bloke looks like he has a good business head on his shoulders...they probably would have liked people with a bit more financial clout to back them of course but i think they will be happy enough with this takeover.

Wonder how they are going to justify £12m fee + £30m wages for a 31 year old who played 58 games in 4 seasons for spurs...with no resale...

£100k a week, two and a half year contract equates to £13m. Don’t know where the £30m has come from?
Not going to keep us up single handed, but could be a catalyst for others to sign. Decent buy imo.

144k a week is being reported. Regardless, 12 million for Trippier is very good business. He's a level above a relegation battle but I couldn't see him getting in any of the top 8 teams. I guess this is the slow gradual build you're starting on, now.

Probably the fact he's an England international, and a La Liga winner with Atletico.

Decent signing for Newcastle, rivalry aside.
£100kpw or more for a lad who will be 33 next year? Suppose they have plenty money to waste but it's not a great model - hoovering up 30+ cast offs from other side and giving them huge contracts

He turned 31 in September. He's just won the league with Ath Madrid and made the team of the year. Hardly a cast off. Its a great signing for them. No doubt about it.

They just need to survive this season and a few more like him through the door and it will pretty much make sure of that barring a massive injury crisis.

I'd call him a decent signing and no more than that. Just because he played in a Madrid side that won the league doesn't automatically make him a superstar, Don't forget he couldn't get into an average Spurs side for the couple of years before he left for Spain

He's probably the best player they've got now so for them rather than in the context of the Premier league, I'd say he is a great signing.

Decent signing for Newcastle,

He's a good signing.Anyone That thinks "who'd go there?" are kidding themselves. No matter where they are in the leauge, money talks.KT is just the start imo. They will be next level in a couple of season. Personal I feel the rivalry is gone. The fun of the rivalry was we were close in most aspects, crap most weeks but looked forward to the weekend football then bragging rights up for grabs twice a season. I don't like them,or wish them well but realistically the Saudi money is the next 50 levels. In the end they always seem to get what they want.

FTM!!!

If he's on 100k, or as the Telegraph has it 130k, then he will be thier best paid player by miles. Probably at least double what their best two players are on. And no doubt with a very hefty signing on fee, and the same for his agent.

I'm sure all the other players , and their agents will be delighted and not be envious or resentful in the slightest.

Though it could be of course that they would in any event, turn down any extra money which might come from a State which kills for fun, persecutes and discriminates against the vast majority of people who live in that there, and is on record as having complete contempt for Western culture and it's values.

It's literally the first signing of the new ownership at Newcastle, it's hardly 'hoovering up 30 year olds'.
