We might of been in a mess but when you think he was being paid three times more than his counterpart at Sid James Park he appeared to not have any inclination or impulse to want to change things - sorry but he was another one who took advantage of Shorts mismanagement and was quite happy to take his money while the club went down the plug hole . Sorry but good riddance to bad rubbish thankfully we now appear to be in much safer hands !!!
oh he was another one to happily take his inflated wages, i will grant you that...his job was simply to cut costs to the bone and he actually did 'his job' very well, the fact that it impacted on the fans and employees did not really come into it as it was just what he had to do. don't like the bloke and pleased we are rid of the likes of him and that wife but, unfortunately, he left the role here with a good reputation in fact he was probably the only one not harmed by the cuts.
"Lille defender Sven Botman, 21, is set to snub advances from Newcastle United because the Netherlands Under-21 defender is wary of joining a team battling to avoid relegation. (Times - subscription required)" I mean you'd imagine that's the case for a lot of players. They've done their best to raise their game since the takeover but they've got **** all to show for it really, points wise. It's hard to picture ambitious players who want to win trophies joining Newcastle any time soon.
I'd say that's the polite way of saying, 'There are lots of decent clubs out there whose owners aren't barbaric murderers.' Despite the fact that many people simply believe football players go absolutely anywhere for money they're just normal human beings with a conscience, family and friends. They have to justify their actions to themselves and other people. The Saudis are terrible people who've carried out atrocities on their own people and foreigners which is well known, but they're just as likely to do the same again next week, next month, next year. Why would players, who've taken stands on racism, etc, choose to take the money of people who's laws celebrate stoning people to death, mutilating them and persecuting gays, etc.
Probably 99% wouldn’t but the mags will get the other 1%. I’m looking forward to see who these players are after all the bending of the knee.
Me too, it's one thing kneeling down for a seconds but anyone going to Newcastle will have serious questions to answer. The likes of Rashford or Zaha would have to be massive hypocrites to even consider going to Newcastle.
Yep. The questions will come. And any player with other options will realise this. Especially after the first uncomfortable interview by the first player. They can only shield them so much.
On 23 April 2019, Saudi Arabia carried out mass executions of 37 imprisoned civilianswho had been convicted mostly on the basis of confessions obtained under torture or written by the accused's torturers. Most of the executed belonged to the country's Shia minority. Significant human rights issues included: unlawful killings; executions for nonviolent offenses; forced disappearances; torture and cases of cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment of prisoners and detainees by government agents; harsh and life-threatening prison conditions; arbitrary arrest and detention; political ...30 Mar 2021 Criminal law punishments in Saudi Arabia include public beheading, stoning, amputation and lashing. Serious criminal offences include not only internationally recognized crimes such as murder, rape, theft and robbery, but also apostasy, adultery, witchcraft and sorcery.
I was told (quite emphatically and with a soupçon of arrogance) that Newcastle are "not in any danger", the "Saudis will spend money" and they have a run of "really easy fixtures" coming up that will see them pull away. This was from my Father in Law, who is a "massive Newcastle fan".............who has been to as many Newcastle matches in the last 10 years as I have
Well someone will I'm sure. Or something like it. Most normal people don't use twitter, but it seems it doesn't take many on there to make a fuss. It's where a lot of lazy journalists get their ideas for stories these days. So once this type of stuff starts getting a mention there - and in all conscience it would be no bad thing to have further light shone on the evil backwater of the Saudis - then some journalists will pick it up. This will always a really easy a story to write, as there is always fresh material.
realistically, if players truly believe in what 'taking the knee' stands for then there is no way they can play for any club associated in any way with those who openly persecute many sections of society...i am still surprised that players around the world have not tried to make any stand against the world cup being played over there, especially taking into consideration the need for the competition to be altered as summer temperatures would be way too hot and countries having to take a winters break to accommodate this. by allowing somewhere to 'buy' the rights to host such competitions, the governing bodies are effectively endorsing the acts committed by such countries, the only way to hope to get such atrocities stopped (or at the very least reduced) is by not dealing with them, the only way they should be allowed to have any part in world competitions should be when they stop these acts.
Southampton have been taken over by a company backed by Serb media mogul Dragan Solak. The Premier League club confirmed Sport Republic has bought Chinese businessman Gao Jisheng's 80% stake. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59866024
