The last I read about him he wanted to become a tattoo artist. I don't see any future for him at Charlton. Bringing him into the squad would cause problems at a time when the team spirit is better than it's been all season.
Clearly it's not the profession for him. Most people knew somebody at school who had the talent but not the desire to be a professional footballer.You must log in or register to see media
Didn't we have a goalie 5 or 6 years ago who had to stop playing because he was suffering from depression? I can't remember his name and he didn't get many first-team opportunities, but he got nothing but support and sympathy from staff and fans. Madison has to show the same sort of humility if he is to get the same response, but it may be that he has to get out of the public eye anyway to get himself sorted, in which case we won't be seeing him again, not for a while anyway.I think Maddison could do with some help. There was a time in my life when I gave up on everything, work, Family, hobbies etc. I didn't know how depressed I was until I went to a therapist and talked to her. The weekly sessions I had with her over a period really helped and it enabled me to get back on track. Marcus Maddison sounds depressed and he probably needs help. What doesn't help for somebody depressed is people saying you have got a good job you should be happy. I had a good job, great Family and I couldn't eat or sleep.
I hope Maddison gets the help he needs.
I think you mean John Sullivan (?) although I believe Ben Alnwick also had some problems, but can't remember if that was depression related. John Sullivan certainly was. Maddison certainly seems to be showing some signs of having depression and DP is right, the last thing he would need is people telling him he's well off and has nothing to complain about. It's far more complicated than that. I would assume help is available in professional football now, but as with all these things the player himself needs to acknowledge that he needs that help and be willing to accept it.Didn't we have a goalie 5 or 6 years ago who had to stop playing because he was suffering from depression? It was Ikeme, we had on loan from Wolves
I think Ikeme sadly had Leukaemia but I believe he beat it. John Sullivan suffered depression but again with the right help he overcame it.It was Ikeme, we had on loan from Wolves
I'm pretty sure a lot of nurses and doctors and hospital workers have considered walking away from their profession after what they've been through in the last 13 months. But I think the majority of them will probably find a way to carry on, even if it is to the detriment of their own personal wellbeing.
Forgive me for not overflowing with sympathy for footballers who have been feeling the strain in these difficult times.
Bit harsh Lardi. I think there’s a big difference between feeling the strain and having clinical depression. I’m by no means a leftie woke, but depression can be all consuming.I'm pretty sure a lot of nurses and doctors and hospital workers have considered walking away from their profession after what they've been through in the last 13 months. You sound like Royston, whose opinion on this bloke's mental health issues was "No Sympathy"

I agree 100% with your parameters for sympathy Lardi. The nurse at the top and MM (the spoilt American actress version) definitely at the bottom.My sympathy for the mental health strain that other people are under has a maximum end and a minimum end.
At the maximum end is that poor nurse who broke down in tears begging panic buyers not to leave her unable to buy basic shopping after a long shift treating desperately ill Covid patients.
At the minimum end is Meghan Markle.
I make no bones about saying right now, that in my view Marcus Maddison is closer to the Meghan Markle end of my sympathy spectrum than he is to the exhausted nurse end.
Also for the record;
I never said I have no sympathy for Maddison. I simply don't seem to have as much as most other members here.
That's my opinion, and I would like to think it is respected as such - just as I respect the opinions of those members who disagree with me.
And as for me sounding like Royston - there is somebody else currently posting on this forum who is in a better position to answer that than I am![]()
