It looks like there's going to be a lot more changed regardless of test results, Salford have just announced they're changing the cladding on all nine of their tower blocks, despite none of them actually having had the tests completed yet (presumably they're already aware they'll fail).
I get her point exactly.... free apartment, no service charges, likely no council tax and benefitting from a substantial non taxable charitable donation....

Ridiculous overreaction in Camden, 800 households being moved into emergency accommodation for an unspecified amount of time while new cladding is arranged for their buildings.
Other councils with rather more common sense are informing residents of updated emergency plans, with some employing 24 hour fire wardens for each building, just to be on the safe side (and to reassure residents).
People obviously shouldn't be put at risk, but things are starting to get daft.

Yeah saw it last night, it's ****ing silly. However, when you listen to the people behind making this decision, the motivation behind this move becomes pretty clear. And it's not about people's safety.
What a truly dreadful woman. I'd say the reason she'll leave is not because she pays and they don't but simply that she doesn't want to live too close to those nasty poor people.
Can you blame her?
I lived in a brand new social housing development (less than half the size of this) for 2 years, and I can't blame her one bit. Half the neighbours were decent and the other half were proper scum of the earth dregs of society.
It's not necessarily just these folks but then who comes after.
The poor ****ers who have had this dumped on them have just had a substantial amount of wealth wiped clean out with a sharp nosedive in property value. It's not their fault but they become victims too. The council should at the very least compensate them for any drop in property value.
It maybe sound unsympathetic but it is what it is and they have a right to be aggrieved.
Have to disagree I'm afraid. She's condemning and pre-judging a group of people she's never met (and will probably cross the road to avoid) based on nothing but their inability to pay £15k pa service charge and an astronomical monthly rent.
She's assuming they'll be using gratis the same services she pays for, but does she know what conditions or restrictions are placed on social housing tenants? I'd bet she doesn't.
I and most other people have no idea what Grenfell Tower was like before it burnt down, people just assume the worst.
I don't buy the drop in property values argument either. I lived for 30 years in an area of densely populated Victorian terraces, all forms of life lived there, property values were not adversely affected one iota.
I reckon it's people like her who perpetuate and fuel differences between rich and poor, priveleged and not, black and white.

Buildings catch fire all the time, if it wasn't for Grenfell Tower, this wouldn't have made the news anywhere but the East London Advertiser.
