What I don't understand is, how is it even possible to buy panels that are flammable?

What possible ****ing use are they?

I agree with you. Take nothing away from the poor sods caught up in all this, but we pay insurances precisely for situations such as this (and others) and this all takes the piss a bit. Not that I begrudge the families one bit but more that this has been used as a tool for political point scoring and people forcing each other's arms.

On a seperate note I read something the other day about many of the Grenfell flats being sub let and an unspecified number of illegal immigrants living there. I can see his presenting a logistical nightmare and the potential for some unscrupulous social housing system players getting a free bonus modern flat to rake the coin in from and the poor ****ers who actually lived there getting **** all. If those reports have any truth to them.

At a total guess, probably manufactured by the contractor or a related company. Possibly for in house savings or material availability/timescales, planning on nobody ever finding out. Hopefully we learn why it happened.

It does beg the question... if the panels supply and installation cost was £3.7 million (Think I saw this figure apologies if wrong) just WHAT was the other £4.9 million spent on!!!!!... it wasn't fire safety, seemingly..!

From the pictures it looked as if the entrance and front lobby had been all done up. I think it was a complete refurbishment not just exterior panelling.

From memory, I think it was £2.8m for the cladding, but as Bob says, that was just a small part of the job, they refurbed the whole place.

The proceeds from the 2017 FA Community Shield will be donated to support those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.

Harrods have given £1m as well, it seems they lost some staff in the fire.

Grenfell Tower: Fire started in Hotpoint fridge freezer, say police

The Grenfell Tower fire in London started in a fridge freezer, and outside cladding failed safety tests, police say.

Insulation on the building also failed tests and the Metropolitan Police will consider manslaughter charges.

Seventy-nine people are feared dead after the blaze destroyed 151 homes in the Kensington tower block.

Police said the fire had not been started deliberately.

Det Sup Fiona McCormack said she wanted to hear about anyone who was in the tower, whether or not they were meant to be in the building.

She said: "I do not want there to be any victims of this tragedy that we do not know about.

"Our priority is to understand who was in Grenfell Tower. We are not interested in people's reasons for being in Grenfell Tower."

The fridge freezer the fire started in was a Hotpoint FF175BP model. Police say the manufacturers have been told, as well as the Department of Business Energy and Industrial Policy.

Further tests were being done on the appliance, they said, and the fridge freezer had never been subject to a product recall.

Am I Been heartless but it seems they're going to raking it in.
I've got home insurance, have they? Tough if not. It seems like a lot are going to profit out if this.

    Haven't over 450 survived this?

The huge amounts of unexpected cash which are generated at times like this must cause as many problems as they solve. We can only hope that the trustees of these funds are fair-minded and responsible people but we'll never really know because it won't be news in a couple of weeks time.

To be honest that was also my first thought, soon they will be so rich they can buy those luxury apartments in Kensington.

Seriously though I hope they (all parties) are using the money wisely.

That would work with my son, he doesn't like ginger nuts.

Anything else of a treat type variant and it's like a plague of locusts have rampaged through my cupboards.

I may have to employ a similar system.

14 high-rise buildings in nine local authorities have failed cladding tests so far, according to the Communities and Local Government Department.
