So he hasn't gone yet then? It seems we can assume that Liverpool want him, and that they are using the media to destabilise both him and us.
So far nothing else, or have I missed something? Something real from a reputable source I mean, not a ****-storm erupting on twatter/facebollocks.

Well, what ever happens, who ever goes or stays, as long as the good lord will let me, I shall be supporting my saints as I have been for the last 60 odd years.

Interesting that we seem to view Pottechino as somehow 'owing' us (year left on contract etc) but we owe Rickie this opportunity to go with our blessing to Liverpool. I do get that, but I'd suggest in terms of their respective careers, Rickie owes SFC an awful lot more than MP does.

117 goals and two promotions isn't bad payback for the million we spent on him.

Do we count Blackmore as saying the deal will definitely go through and BBC Sport reporting it's very close?

I think with Rickie, for now anyway, it doesn't seem like he is forcing a move in a similar way Poch did. We put both of them on the map but I'd say Rickie has repaid us pretty well.

Saints owe more to Rickie than Rickie owes to Saints.

We put Rickie on the map and developed his game a hell of a lot more than we did MP. Look, I'm being a little bit contrary on purpose here, but it's interesting looking at it dispassionately.

Well, I've left it overnight before I post.

Gutted is the word to describe it. I'm overjoyed for him, gutted for us. His boyhood dream was to play for Liverpool and to play for England in a World Cup. After what he has done for us, I feel selfish wanting to take half that away, but he is the first player since Matt Le Tissier to do so much for SFC.

I just hope that the 'pool fans realise what a great, great guy they are getting - someone who has never let us down and is the symbol of our resurrection under the Liebherr's.

Sir Rickie of Lambertshire, go win that Champions League next year, but come back and see us sometime. And all I have left to say are two words:

Thank You

Should we? If you read the BBC coverage there is nothing of substance in there. Same with Sky. And what does Blackmore know? seems to me, no one tells him anything.

I'm not saying there's nothing behind this story. It's just that we don't yet know what.

I can see it could be argued that way LTL, we took him to the Premier League etc., but the reality is that more than any other player in the last 5 years, he has been responsible for our rise up through the leagues. And he didn't get selected for England because he played for Southampton, it was because he was the equal highest English goalscorer in 2012/13, not to mention the assists and other chances he creates. And when you think how his salary compares to the likes of Rooney and Susrez, we have had him very much on the cheap.

I'm sorry, but we don't owe Rickie anything. I'll be completely devastated if he leaves: like many others on here he's been my favourite Saints player since Le Tiss, and is in my all-time top 3 with MLT and Big Ron. But I can't begrudge him a shot at the Champions League in what might just be his last season or two. Adam and Luke could make it there if they stay with us, but time isn't on Rickie's side.

Rickie said only recently that he wouldn't have played for England if he hadn't played for Saints. Said he had to thank the club for it. I wouldn't be surprised if this move is true because SRL made some remark recently about having to think about money more now he had three young children. I think that he missed a big money move to WHU when Katharina took over...he may have been promised it wouldn't happen again.

I can't begrudge Rickie this, but I don't want him to have it either...if that makes sense.

I think that probably sums up how a lot of us are feeling Fran.

Totally agree I'm pleased for Rickie to have earned this opportunity, but gutted to see him leave saints. Rickie woul be leaving for a club he has emotional ties to, who can offer him an immediate- and most probably last- chance for champions league football. Pochettino has moved for mildly higher profile & more $$?

At 32 and with form patchy during spells last season, it's not a bad fee to receive. But what a pro and character we're losing- hard to tell how that might effect development of Gallagher and the likes... Shame if we fans don't get to give him a decent send off too

If it`s true, then good luck to him. Disappointed to see him go, but £8-9m would represent good business I think. There were games last season he didn`t seem to have the legs. I can`t see where he would fit into the current Liverpool set up - unless they`re looking for a plan B. I don`t see him getting the same game time as he does with us.
