I would love to see a martinez/varane combination in defence, either that or have Martinez play in front of Maguire /.Lindelof to give them an outlet for the ball instead of each othe
I suspect that Ten Hag is using Maguire more in this preseason games to get a feel for how to bring out the best in him. If he keeps messing up, I don’t see how the manager would persist with him. Hee seriously lacks confidence. My hope is that he isn’t already psychologically damaged.

Varane and Martinez combo has to be preferred. I won’t even bother with Lindelof.

Shame really, you missed a decent performance.
No - sorry but he is the least productive member of the team - all running (where have we seen that before) but very little end product, his assist the other game was the first and only decent contribution he has made. He is one of those players whose football brain outdoes the ability of his feet - he is keen to take the ball in important areas but what he doesn't appreciate is that he has positioned himself in such a way as it is impossible to get the ball to him - then he goes into a hissy-fit before rinse/repeat. Can't see what value he brings to the side at all.

I think the manager has given him every chance but on the back of these displays I can se him sitting on the bench - again. We have Eriksen, hopefully de Jong or Neves coming in, we can't afford another Park Ji Sung in the side

I have only seen highlights of the friendlies and they concentrated on the attacking/goals. I take little notice of what the previous managers thought of any of the players.
What i know for sure is that ETH played him whenever he could for Ajax and in a recent interview stated that his biggest asset was arriving in the box at the right time. I know another midfielder that was quite good at that.

But he must have other strengths too. If that’s his only asset then Ten Hag will follow the other 2 managers and leave him on the bench.

Let’s face it, every other player in the team turned sht in the last few seasons. They were never coached to become better players. Why are we surprised that Donny never made it? He didn’t even get a chance to show how bad he apparently is like every other player in the last two seasons.

He played well in a specific system (at Ajax) but wasn’t good enough to adapt to another. His spell at Everton seems to confirm that.
Everton sucks at being Everton. They are a bit like United last season but on the polar end.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think he is a starting player. But he think he can certainly be a good squad player.

I don’t always agree with GNeville but on this he’s spot on. Just like the Bayern manager who finds it incredulous that a nearly bankrupt club can still buy the most expensive players on the planet.

“De Jong should consider legal action v Barcelona and all players should be behind him!A club spending fortunes on new players whilst not paying the ones they have under contract their full money is immoral and a breach. @FIFPRO should be all over bullying like this and stop it.”
