According to days Independent and I understand the telegraph ,Les is set to be given a senior role at QPR as a go-between for the coaching staff and the board.

May I humbly suggest that Tony gives the coaching staff a couple of weeks off, and let Les who in my opinion was the fastest and fittest man ever to wear a Rangers shirt take the training for the next two weeks, and Tony and co might just see what fitness is.

Les Ferdinand has been appointed Head of Football Operations at QPR ...

QUEENS Park Rangers Football Club is delighted to confirm the return of legendary front-man Les Ferdinand to Loftus Road, in the role of Head of Football Operations.

‘Sir Les’ – as he was affectionately known during his time here as a player – will be charged with overseeing the structure of the footballing side of the club, focusing on improving the footballing philosophy at all levels.

As part of the role, Ferdinand will have a coaching presence at all levels, helping nurture young talent from the club’s Academy through to the first team.

He will provide a direct link between the footballing side of the business and the Board of Directors, as well as chairing monthly Technical Control Board meetings.

QPR Chairman Tony Fernandes believes the arrival of the 47 year-old will significantly improve the footballing side of the business.

He said: “Football has changed considerably in recent years and I firmly believe there is a role at every football club for this kind of position.

“Les is a fantastic QPR man and I know the fans will join me in welcoming him back to a place he has a great fondness for.

“The footballing philosophy and nurturing young talent are high on our agenda and Les’s experience of working with players at all levels, combined with his undoubted passion for the club, will help us build and improve.”

A delighted Ferdinand told www.qpr.co.uk: “It’s incredible to be back here.

“This club holds a special place in my heart. Everyone knows what it means to me, so when the opportunity to return here in this role came up I jumped at the opportunity.

“Tony and his fellow shareholders know the passion I have and the experience I’ve gained since retiring will really stand me in good stead for this role.

“There’s nothing I want more than for QPR to be successful in the short, medium and long term and I’m excited about the challenge ahead.”

He added: “It’s about time we started producing players that come through to the first-team from the academy. QPR always had a tradition for doing that, but it seems to have gone away from it in recent years.

“I know the owners would like to get back to that, and they want that side of the club to develop.”

R’s manager Harry Redknapp said: “I'm pleased to welcome Les back to the club.

“There's no doubting the qualities he'll bring to the role, having enjoyed a great time here as a player. But beyond that, he understands the game.

“I brought him in at Tottenham as a coach, and he did a great job for me there.

“Having someone like him involved with the club, someone who understands the history of it, can only be good for QPR.”

Welcome back Les!!! Wayne Faraday was definitely quicker even with his moustache

Welcome back Sir Les! I dearly hope that his appointment is one for the long term and that he has an impact in bringing through academy players. We desperately need to start nurturing our own talent.

Now, if we can get Peter Hucker and Bob Hazel in as well to sort our the defence we should be fine!

Sounds to me like the start of a shake up, wonder how involved Harry has been in this appointment, and how he feels about it?

Yeh, Welcome back Sir Les. Hope you can improve things. There is one hell of a lot to improve - a great job!

I just want to make sure I’m reading this correctly.

“overseeing the structure of the footballing side of the club, focusing on improving the footballing philosophy at all levels.”

So Les is going to be in charge of the road map for the club and he will set the club’s ethos for all areas? So does that include style, tactics and transfer policy?

“As part of the role, Ferdinand will have a coaching presence at all levels, helping nurture young talent from the club’s Academy through to the first team.”

I can see the sense in this and it will possibly help Fernandes’ desire to actually get players from the youth teams to eventually play first team football.

“He will provide a direct link between the footballing side of the business and the Board of Directors, as well as chairing monthly Technical Control Board meetings.”

All of these activities seem to indicate that he has a higher station than the manager. If this is the case, and in conjunction with his contract renewal being withdrawn, I think it must number Redknapp’s days, but secure his immediate future while Les settles in. Hopefully it is a step towards the excellent set up that they have at Southampton, where they managed to lose their manager, sell half their squad but know exactly how to replace them all to become stronger. If this is the case, then this is the appointment we have been crying out for, let’s hope that Les is the man for the job. I'd hate to see his reputation sullied.

Good luck Les.

Anyone else getting a little tired of seeing "Les Fredinand" in the thread title? Easy slip to make. looking at my keyboard, but can mods change the thread titles?
