Indeed. Problem is people remember the Phillipe Albert defenders but further that it is the Darren Peacock that is the main man in defence. Schar could be an Albert but currently we have no Peacock
Aye, I kinda thought they’d want silly money, he’s still relatively unproven but he is English, looks the part so they’ll play on that, plus they’ll double it cos we’re loaded so probably £100m to us, £50m to anyone else
Is he though? Plays in a back 4 for Switzerland who have conceded very few in WC qualifying. Maybe he's just **** in a back 4 for us?
Or maybe its because Lascelles is sooo ****ing poor that he just makes the rest all look **** in a back 4. Anyone noticed how its never Lascelles who makes the fatal errors at the back that lead to goals? The reason for this is because he hides, doesn't mark, doesn't get stuck in and is always out of position so its his poor bloody partners that cock up whilst trying and failing to cover his arse.
If you scour the PL for international players who are due at the tournament, but not playing club football, as you say you could pick up some quality. I like the idea of hungry players with a point to prove. I'm sure Lingard will be heading to West Ham, but his spell there last season shows the benefit of players with a point to prove, and I'd take him in a heartbeat. I also think someone is going to get a gem with Van de Beek. Loads of people sleeping on that fella, I watched a lot of Ajax, he was key.
Fantastic prospect, very modern full back. Would certainly inject a lot of energy which we are severely lacking.
Aye I think its more that some have a real hatred of Lascelles and a real love of Rafa, so Schar gets his actual worth elevated way beyond his actual performance. I still think its mad that Bruce and Jones think Lascelles and Clark is our best option though. Its clearly Fernandez and Schar for me. Neither are amazing and Schar will drop several clangers a season (mainly because he thinks he's better than he is too), but taking emotion out and historical performance out, Lascelles and Clark have been absolutely shocking. Clark has actually been worse than Jamal and that takes some doing. Surely on form alone you make the change? But yeah it does make me chuckle at times when I read what people write about Schar. I think he's better in a three where his propensity to go walk about is not so painful.
If it was me, I'd go with Dummet and Fernandez at the back. Reason being Dummet's reading of the game and Fed's consistency - normally, in comparison to the others. It would be slow as **** I admit, but I'd rather attack as the best form of defence.
I saw Fed when I was coming out after the game at home to Chelsea. Was a top dude. But both me and my pal said his whole demeanour seemed a bit unhappy (fed up boom boom). You cant really blame him watching those two clowns. I actually feel a bit sorry for Lascelles and Clark. When you are playing that badly, there comes a time where retaining the faith is actually bad for the player too. Sadly Bruce (and Jones) have chosen not to take them out the firing line.
