For me, Bowyer has now arguably surpassed Chris Powell and is the 4th best manager Charlton have ever had.
Not in terms of achievement stats (Powell's two comfortable mid-season Championship finishes are something Bowyer has yet to achieve) but in terms of keeping the team going and achieving beyond what should be possible against difficult circumstances.
Jimmy Seed, Lennie Lawrence and Alan Curbishley were Great Charlton managers.
The only three ever to guide CAFC into the top division.
But of all of them, only Lawrence faced difficulties off the pitch that were worse than those faced (any maybe still to be faced) by Lee Bowyer.
For a Decade now Charlton Athletic has been owned by chancers, asset-strippers and crooks.
Frankly it's a miracle the Club still exists.
And yet Lee Bowyer has hauled the battered Club up from the 3rd tier, and is on the point of securing 2nd division survival - when by every measure we should be cut adrift in 24th place and already relegated.
I pray the ownership issue gets resolved soon, and LB is allowed to build on all his efforts so far.
A few fans don't believe he is good enough to be a Championship manager.
I believe they are wrong. Given a chance, I believe Bowyer can take Charlton as far as Lennie Lawrence did.
I just hope he doesn't have to do it away from the Valley.
