11 of us broke free from wives and kids to act up a little for two nights.
12 pint session Friday night and Saturday saw the main event. 3 different walks with ke taking the least risky as I am operating on one eye currently.
I walked from Ambleside to Troutbeck then up Wansfell pike and back down into Ambleside. Total ascent was less than 500 metres but it was well over an hour climb.
Walking down was 90 minutes eith lots of view stops.
Curry and beer last night now home and stiff as a board.
Lakes is a nice place but the grockle tax is very annoying.

We we up there recently doing a 20 mile walk in the rain.

We came across a herd of 'wild' horses which I didn't even know existed.

They were sheltering from the rain, in a copse of trees, looking totally bedragelled with long wet mains over their faces ....

... like a scene from hundreds of years ago.

I've researched them since and they're incredible.

Sounds like certain posters on the other site

Would it be a place you could take 2 young. Kids? 1 with special needs

That could be an issue, she can walk ok until she decides she has had enough and just sits down
It is mainly stone path and uneven steps but quite challenging. The main climb took over an hour but zero scrambling. Some bits are quite steep so coming down presents trip hazards

Thanks, probably not the best for my daughter then

Were you up Mungrisdale Smug, those horses are well known in the northern lakes.

As another suggestion there are places that do pony trekking with fell pony's there?

If your daughter has done horse riding before she might enjoy something like that instead of a walk?

Its something we are looking to get her into, the school are helping with finding some places suitable local to us.

We go once a year, stay at a place called Low Wood Bay.

It’s absolutely stunning, has a full range of activities on the lake etc.

I can not recommend this place highly enough to anyone.

you must have a bob or two Nads to stay at the Low Wood, they've just spent millions upgrading it and your right it's got a fantastic view over Lake Windermere.

Yeah the health centre they’ve added on is another level mate, the year before we were there it was getting done, and we had a balcony room but we couldn’t actually open the door.

When we went back and it was finished it was beyond perfect. I love the place I’ll be going until I die.

The view is unmatched, it’s less than 10 metres balcony to lake (although there is a road that sees a fair bit traffic in between!).
