Good time trial by Simon Yates, stretched his lead slightly over Valverde, who he expected to lose time to. Hopefully he can finish it off and see it through to Madrid Sunday.

Another good day for Simon Yates lost a few seconds to Valverde & Mas who is 2nd & 3rd respectively, but as this climb was his least favourite he will be happy with his day. His brother was up there also towards the end which was good also. Another plus is Quintana looks out of it now as he lost a good chunk of time on the leaders.

Down to 3, Mas looks good but is about 1m.20 down on Yates, but moving into Andora after tomorrow which is a flat stage, this is where Yates lives and trains, so he will be on familiar terrain, but so is Mas.

Well, a flat stage which favoured a bunch sprint, which was turned on its head when the last 2 of the breakaway managed to see it through to a thrilling stage win.

Yates and all the other GC contenders remained safe and Yates takes 25 seconds advantage over Valverde with 2 mountain stages to go.

****ting hell, Yates is absolutely smashing this here, Valverde, Mas, Quintana and Kruiswiek gone.....lead extended for sure.....hope he holds on for the stage too

edit - fair play Pinot, good win for him, but Yates has just won the Vuelta I reckon

That was some ride by Simon Yates, really surprised how Valverde and Quintana fell away, though Moviestar were pushing the pace from the front all day and they just ran out of steam. Pinot has looked good this Vuelta, and it worked out perfectly for him with the stage win and Yates taking a huge chunk of time on his rivals.

    Yates to lose now.

Fantastic Simon Yates... well done to you!!! I think thats something ridiculous like the last 6 grand tours have been won by British riders... quite unbelievable that for so long cycling just wasn't seen as a supported sport in this country.

5 in a row now, and good for it to be a non-Sky winning Brit this time too showing there is more to British cycling than the Man City of cycling

Never in doubt and huge congratulations to Simon Yates. Great rides also yesterday by Lopez and Mas to move up to 3rd & 2nd respectively, but Yates had it under control the whole way. Moviestar really fell away badly and Valverde & Quintana looked shot.

As mentioned for 3 different Britsh riders to win all 3 GT is unprecedented, also it has never happened before whereby 3 different riders from one country hold the 3 GT titles in the same year.

Good to see Simon Yates on the podium as a winner. Viviani won the stage with Sagan 2nd for the 4th time this Vuelta, Sagan probably will peak in the world championships again, as he was just starting to ride into some form.

You won't believe it Balkan but he does <laugh>

    From 2016

Yates tested positive for the substance at Paris-Nicein March. He was prescribed medication for his long-term asthma but the drug – on WADA's banned list – was not declared in a therapeutic use exemption by the Orica-GreenEdge team. Terms of WADA's strict liability were applied and despite the team taking responsibility Yates was handed a four-month suspension. As a result he will miss the Tour de France this July but return to racing at the Tour of Poland later this summer.

Team Sky may cease to be, they're entirely funded by Sky and Fox ($32 million), who've just announced they're withdrawing from the sport, partly due to them being taken over by Comcast and partly because of all the negative publicity the team has generated.

Mainly because they've been taken over by Comcast who have no interest in it
James Murdoch was the driving force behind the team

Stick to rugby Chazz (they never cheat or use drugs in that sport do they ?)

The publicity aspect is likely used as an excuse, they've won various tours so that's good publicity overall.
