    Hypothetical of course, but had the first penalty shout been given, rightly or wrongly, they often are, that goal would probably not have happened, thin margins.

    Exactly. I'd suggest the refereeing decisions were the difference between the two sides. You get worldies now and again. He probably won't score another like that for a while (he might), just as Clyne might belt in another scorcher. On the balance of play over the full 90 minutes, they were certainly no better than us (and, arguably, were actually not as good in general play).

    I agree that we had absolutely no luck, and no help from the referee. But while we are one of the most disciplined well drilled units in the league, and therefore one of the hardest teams to beat, we lack that little bit of quality that distinguishes the very best sides, especially in front of goal where it matters. This was clearly the case on Sunday, where we had 60% of the posession but once again lacked the guile to break down a determined defence. Liverpool, on the other hand,had 2 chances and scored 2 goals.
