Fair enough kidda. The Borini non transfer has overshadowed a very good window IMO and has shown the player up to be a deluded, money grabbing mercenary not Gus or the club in a bad light. I think we dodged a massive bullet now having heard the stories and read his bizarre tweets post window.

Every single new signing this summer can and will contribute to the first team, not ones for the future and that's a marked change to last summer. Great work by Gus, Congleton and the clubs hierarchy.

Did Hull overpay for their's ...... yes imo.

Did Newcastle overpay for their's ...... yes imo.

Did WBA overpay for their's ...... yes imo.

    http://m.sunderlandecho.com/sport/s...linked-with-brazilian-striker-jonas-1-6826164

SUNDERLAND have been alerted to the availability of Brazilian striker Jonas after he negotiated a release from his contract with Valencia this week.

The 30-year-old, eight times capped by Brazil, is believed to favour a move to the Premier League with Sunderland and Spurs among those most strongly linked.

But the forward’s former club, Brazilian outfit Gremio FC for whom he scored 40 goals in 74 appearances are also reported to be interested.

Jonas, full name Jonas Goncalves Oliveira, has been at the La Liga side since 2011 and in each of the last three seasons has a return better than a goal every other game

He scored 10 goals last season but 19 goals in each of his two seasons before that, and after Sunderland’s failure to land a forward in the summer transfer window would significantly strengthen the Black Cats’ options up front

Sunderland are believed to have been contacted by the striker’s agent Tiago Goncalves who says the player’s “future will become clearer in the coming days”.

But so far the Black Cats are not believed to have pressed home a firm interest in the free agent.

While at Valencia, as well as regularly finding the back of the net, Jonas added the second fastest goal in Champions League history to his CV, (10.5 seconds, v Bayer Leverkusen in 2011) and also notched an eight minute hat-trick (v Osasuna in 2013).

The Brazilian undoubtedly has an impressive pedigree but one of the criticisms the 6ft tall forward faced before he left South America for Europe is that he was not physically strong enough.

And it maybe that Poyet still has the memory of January transfer window signing Ignacio Scocco - who failed to impose himself in a Sunderland shirt - fresh in his mind.

Scocco joined Sunderland in a £3m deal, arriving at the Stadium of Light with a similarly excellent reputation for exciting attacking play and an eye for goal.

But he flopped badly for the Black Cats in the handful of appearances he made, never settled, and was sold to Newell’s Old Boys in July with Sunderland taking a big cut on their initial outlay.

Against that, Jonas has had a successful spell at Valencia and shown he can deliver in one of the toughest leagues in Europe.

But Poyet will need to be convinced the Brazilian has what it takes to perform in the Premier League before proceeding further.

I don't entirely understand this one....

Liverpool still owe us 14 million from Hendo and Mig?

We offered them a 10 million rebate on that 14 million, up front, for Borini. I.e. No cash changing hands, just taking 10 million off their debt to us. the remaining 4 million could/would be deducted on a performance basis.

Liverpool wouldn't agree to this deal because they wanted 10 million in cash up front, to balance their spending this transfer window?

How does that impact FFP rules, as they would still owe us 14 million. I'm not sure how creditors/debtors are accounted for relative to 'cash' in modern day football accounting, but if FFP started in 2011 (when we sold these 2) and clubs have to show they have paid their bills to other clubs it doesn't sound like Liverpool had a foot to stand on in accepting our 'debtors offer'.

To be honest, I'd be surprised Liverpool still owed us for Hendo and Mig - deals done 3 years ago. Could be completely wrong likes nod maybe someone out there who knows this stuff can explain it in laymans.

I'm not buying into the theory that we are still owed that amount of money from years ago...

****ing hell, does this mean southampton have to wait about 10 years to get their money for the players liverpool have just bought..

    utter bollocks imo.

Been looking and we can only be owed 4m on hendo and according to media outlets Mig was a flat 10m fee.

I'm going with we withdrew our 14m bid and bought Rodwell. Then submitted a loan bid which Liverpool turned down. The we ended all pursuit when we brought Coates in.

    All the clues are there.

Still no clearer on why Borini didn't come before Rodwell signed other than Borini wanting to see how things developed later in the window, his shoulder injury could have held things up, we lost patients and moved on. leaving a loan offer on the table.

But I firmly believe we moved on on a permanent move regardless of what the media were guessing.
