Get the lad in. Not only do we need cover,(leaving out Graham) we need a striker to show some leadership up front.

It was initially reported that Jonas would be making a move back to his native Brazil but it can now be revealed that Premier League side Sunderland are leading the race to snap up the 30-year old. Sunderland eyeing a swoop for Jonas Sunderland manager Gus Poyet had been in the market to sign a new striker during the summer transfer window, with Fabio Borini his main target. However, the move for Borini did not come into fruition and Poyet had to instead settle for Ricky Alvarez, who is more of an attacking midfielder rather than an out and out frontman. Sunderland signed Ricky Alvarez as an alternative to Fabio Borini Therefore, Poyet is believed to have been scouring the free transfer market in his search for a new striker following the passing of the transfer deadline and has now set his sights on signing Jonas due to his availability. According to reports, Poyet is looking to lure Jonas on a short term deal to the club and with the striker keen on plying his trade in the Premier League, the shock transfer could well come into fruition. Poyet tempted to sign Jonas Jonas is a talented striker who boasts a decent goalscoring record of 51 goals in 139 appearances during his time at Valencia. The 30-year old has also been capped on eight occasions by the Brazilian national team and his pedigree is undoubted. With Sunderland looking a bit light in attack at the moment, securing an established striker such as Jonas could well prove to be a risk worth taking for the Black Cats. another article linking us with jonas
To be honest he'd go straight in ahead of Fletcher and Graham even half fit for me. If he got fit he'd be great competition for the top spot with Wickham and Altidore.
"Jonas Gonçalves Oliveira offered Sunderland contract Free-agent Jonas Gonçalves Oliveira has been offered a contract at Sunderland. The former Valencia man has been searching for a new team all summer and it appears that a possible destination could be the Stadium of Light. Gus Poyet’s side have offered him a deal as they look to strengthen their forward line and will await the forward’s decision on whether to join or not this week."
Gerrin another brazilian international striker to go with the rest, ha'way man gus/conga what are you's playing at
It should be Wickham's to lose imo. If he came in and out performed wickham then he'd be the main man. I can see Graham going out on loan whenever that sneaky loan window for the football league opens.
Can you explain in some detail how Poyet has been let down in many ways this window? Save for the Borini saga, I'm at a loss as too what you're alluding too really. I think we cleared out some deadwood, brought in much better and with the addition of one more player ( maybe this lad Jonas will be it) a quite canny transfer window has just left us.
I concur, i too am puzzled by that, all in all it was a mint window, the creshendo leading up to borini not coming felt like a let down but **** that we have strengthened all ower the shop, heard an interesting story about borini today, in fact probably the truth but that thread died
Poyet was lied to by Borini and his agent ...... there's no disgrace on Poyet's part as far as I'm concerened
Aye...I was trying to highlight the Borini disappointment, nothing else. He, Poyet, all through this Borini saga, has tried countless times to hint to the fans, without giving away what was holding up the 'DEAL' that he still thinks (at the time) that he will sign in time. He gave the impression that despite these problems, they would still land him, saying, "there is still work to be done"...and " We are still trying very hard". Every time he was asked he had a glint in his eye as though he knew something. That told me that although it was a complex deal, it was attainable. I believe his agent has shafted Poyet with a web of lies and deceit etc etc So when I say I want to see an interview with Poyet, I want that question asked again to read his body language...I believe Poyet isn't just disappointed because he didn't land his man, I believe he is furious with the way he has been lied to and the way he has been treat, for about 8 weeks. Other than that. Poyet and the backroom staff deserve a huge pat on the back for their efforts !
Here goes then, should put it on the borini thread to do gonads in really. As soon as the window opened we said we wanted him, £14m knowing he has a buy-out clause of £10m, the £14m was never cash, its what liverpool owe us from mig & hendo, liverpool wanted cash and to retain there payment arrangement, we said **** off, we maintained our stance, but not that bothered as it was money owed, knowing that the release clause would be common knowledge in the agents world, liverpool still pushed us for the cash, we told them to **** off time and time again, qpr then triggered the release clause of £10m, borini priced himself out of the move because he wanted to come here, liverpool owe us £14m and ellis was prepared to waive it for the player, liverpool wanted £14m off us to keep there financial arrangement in place, basically we said our way or piss off and appatently so is he (pissed off that is)
Makes sense although Borini is both the winner & loser at the same time. Liverpool's finances are out of control and they're playing a dangerous game imo. If they **** up this year they'll be in trouble.
Thats why they wanted cash, the arrangement is already factored on the books as an outgoing, inside ffpr, seems we've played a canny bit hardball this window i'm proud to say
