We'll wait until he's found guilty. No good sacking him on the off chance he does get off.
Once he's found guilty, I don't see how he couldn't be, we'll get shot.

That`s the bit that bothers me. If grooming includes `chatting up` then there is nothing to say she didn`t look, say 17/18?
If, as you say, he knew her age then that, for me, puts culpability beyond doubt and he deserves all he gets.
The CP only need to suspect and believe they can persuade a jury. They don't need actually physical proof. His plea will tell us more. If they have solid proof of grooming he'd be insane to plead innocent. It would virtually guarantee him maximum sentence possible.
Grooming is specific to minors Pops. It's definition goes something along the lines of "priming a minor for sexual contact" through calls or texts or presents or whatever.

The grooming charge means the CP think he knew her age whilst pursuing her for sex. He could have pestered her for sex before getting it, but if they can't convince a jury he knew her age then he'll get off with the grooming charge. He could still get done for sex with a child and get off with grooming. The fact the CP have brought up a grooming charge tells us they're going for a maximum sentence as a guilty verdict on grooming makes sure he'll get a maximum sentence for the other charges too. The cp must have strong case. Either that or the CP are covering their own arses by putting a high profile case to the jury thus covering them if he re offends.
If he's been 'grooming' then there's a 99% chance it's been done using some form of telecoms device.
