There is your answer from the FA:

The FA has today [Monday 14 May] charged Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton in relation to two acts of alleged violent conduct during Sunday’s match against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Following the player’s dismissal in the 54th minute of the fixture, there followed two incidents involving Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany.

As Barton had already been dismissed, both of these incidents fell outside of the jurisdiction of the referee.

Barton has until 6pm on Tuesday 15 May to respond to the charges.

Done for Tevez,Aguero and Kompany

I honestly think the Twitter comments will get brought into as well at some point

Each sending off is worth an extra game, so it is an extra game for Tevez, then two extra games for Aguero, also the Kompany incident was a red card, which is meant to be an extra 3 match ban. Think when twitter is put into a ban till January 1st 2013 would be fair.

I assume this tongue in cheek. It would be moronic handing out a ban like that.

Just pure ridiculous to suggest banning him till January! Its made me chuckle though.

Sounds like he'll get done for the three incidents so it'll somewhere between 6 and 9 games. Twitter stuff is a slap on the wrist no more.

Not so sure about the Twitter stuff comments like:
Joseph Barton ‏ @Joey7Barton
The head was never gone at any stage, once I'd been sent off, one of our players suggested I should try to take 1 of theirs with me...

He's basically admitted he was going all out to try and get one of the Citeh players sent off, knowing the FA they will us this against him.

I very much doubt it to be honest. They only fined the likes of Ravel Morrison/Ranger for homophobic comments. it would be pretty unbalanced to then hand out bans for Joey's.

Homophobic comments are one thing, admitting you were going out to potentially ruin one of the biggest ends to the season by bringing the game into disrepute!!

Reckon they could at least be used in the two charges for violent conduct against him.

If he got any sort of ban for his comments on twitter, I'd lose all faith in the PL. Homophobic comments are a lot worse for me. Simply saying out loud what every knows goes on anyway is just a bit silly. If he is unfortunate he may get a fine for the comments. They may use it against him in terms of his violent conduct charges, but only to prove their case, not to add to any ban.

You must have missed his slanderous comments about Gary Lineker.

What's a homophobic comment got to do with it.

It highlights what the FA's rules are relating to comments made on Twitter. Barton having a personal problem with Shearer/Lineker is not really anything to do with the FA. (they might send him a letter for using it irresponsibly)Making homophobic comments are as it is a current hot topic for the FA and something they are trying to eradicate from the game. If we are going to go down the route of punishing players for having opinions then you might aswell call the whole twitter thing off right now as far as football goes (it would be for the best so I'm not against this)

I see the problem with his comment about trying to get one of the citeh players sent of, that is what the FA will go after it's up to the club to deal with the other comments about shearer/lineker and his general public behavior cause it reflect on the club.

Some one else think he's in for a hefty ban:
Luke Edwards ‏ @LukeEdwardsTele
Joey Barton could be banned for 15 games at start of next season, that's more than a 3rd of #QPR campaign. Lot of time to spend £80k a week

It would be silly if they they went that far, but I suppose he has given them the option. I expect common sense to prevail (its a shame Joey didn't apply common sense at times)
