We are pioneers and trendsetters. I agree, mental to let go of Pelle, I think he looks a decent larker in the PL.
I remember when newcastle were apparently cruising to the premier league title they bought a fella called Asprilla ( great player by the way ) unfortunately for keegan rather than improving the team his signing disrupted the team and the rest is history. Having said that I do agree that another striker wouldn't go amiss but then the obvious problems arise. What we shouldn't do is assume there is a panacea Derby could spend 100 million and still not go up team spirit ,organisation, and good tactics I would argue are indispensable and they cannot be easily bought. We have I believe an abundance of all three though at times this season it may not have appeared so. We also have as talented a squad as any indeed better in my opinion than any. We seem to be gelling and in snowgrass and with Dawson and diomande to return we are in the fortunate position of being able to avoid the panic of the January window.
I think we're well catered for in all positions except up front. If Hernandez is injured then we are somewhat limited. Better to strengthen than to regret doing nothing!
I think it's just that Pelle's contract is running out and he's 32 this year. As decent as he is, Southampton have to look forward. His exit (either this month or in the summer) has been imminent for a while, so Austin was effectively signed to replace him.
It was our wages bill that left us facing Administration. Every £10k per week is £0.5 million a year on our wages bill.
£0.52 million a year actually. We're still enjoying rather large parachute payments and the reward for promotion is significant, whilst we're well placed to do so, a high calibre loan signing from now until the end of the season would be worth the risk, don't you think?
Was listening to 5live earlier, they were talking about Bournemouth signing all these strikers to help keep them up, when they still have Wilson to come back in. Claridge then said that the total money recieved for finishing bottom of the Premier League next season totals £90m! So it's worth it to stay up/get promoted this season, I can see why so many other teams are splashing out. It's a shame we don't have the money to strengthen for real, but thankfully I think we're just about alright. I wondered why Brucey hadn't used the loan window at all and then I had a thought (it hurt). You only get 8 short term loans per season, we've still got 8 to use. Given what happened last time we went up (where we tailed off at the end), is it possible Brucey has saved these loan spots for just before the loan window closes and might tactically use them to fill out the numbers/cover for injuries if/when they happen? No, probably not. Still though.
A loan signing to the end of the season would be the least risky option, I agree. That way it would be a fixed price with an end date.
What? Corry Evans had played more games for us on loan and put in better performances than Hayden before we signed him permanently for 500k. What makes you think Arsenal value Isaac Hayden at £5 million? He's not worth anything above 750k at the moment.
