Er. No bids doesn't mean teams aren't interested. QPR had 3 bids rejected for Bentley anyway.
Anyway, here's a quote from our gaffer talking about transfers a few weeks ago:
"We've had Ben Godfrey (of York City) watched in the last couple of games and we're aware of him. We're aware of Josh Windass, too, and another couple elsewhere.
One thing we've done particularly well in the last couple of years is identifying these younger players. We've had the benefit with people like Andy Robertson and Sam Clucas. We're watching a lot of young players every week."
And here's a little bit on Bentley, although no formal bid was made, Bruce certainly tried:
"A personal scouting mission ended with Bruce enquiring about Bentley's availability but Southend have been quick to dismiss talk of a £1m sale.
"Steve Bruce spoke to Phil Brown and Steve Kavanagh but we've said no to the offer," said Southend chairman Ron Martin.
I don't really know what your point is, players have to start somewhere, we could have bought Odubajo for less than £1m two years ago but we waited and he went to Brentford and ended up costing us £3.5m. What's wrong with cutting out the middle man?
