Bellingham is probably beyond us right now, Maddison is very realistic though, and we should go all out for him in Jan.
Probably is a huge understatement. We're still years of sustained success away from signing Bellinghams unfortunately. I still don't think we'll be able to get Maddison in Jan, but happy to be surprised.
This. Maddison is the one. Just can’t see it happening. Hopefully he doesn’t kick a ball at the World Cup.
Highly unlikely Leicester will be selling Maddison in January, particularly if they lose games over Christmas, as he may be vital to them staying up. Suspect they will keep him and then look to either extend his contract or sell at end of season.
Thank ****, thank god, thank whoever: Newcastle United have no interest in signing Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo, 37, after his departure from Manchester United. (Football Insider)
I think we'll be able to get Maddison in Jan, £60m and he's ours. Bellingham will be at least twice that, ain't happening. I'd be completely happy with Maddison though, he's awesome.
If we shipped out any significant number of those ten in January we'd have to replace most of them with homegrown players, which I imagine would involve a massive surcharge. Not that we can't do that, but the homegrown player rules make it harder for the club to shift players in the order we might hope for.
I get your point but Trippier, Burn, Targett, Longstaff, Willock, Shelvey, Anderson, Wilson would all qualify as HG so we'd be O.K. from those not on the list and I'd not expect more than 3/4 to go in any window so I'm sure we'd get away with it. Got to have 8 "Homegrown" players trained in the country for three years before they turn 21 y/o in the squad for EPL. Got to have 4 Players trained at the club for three years before the turn 21 y/o in the registered squad for CL.
Well Maddison's a nice addition for the first part then. Second part is where hopefully the owners will realise investment in the academy is needed, unless we want the likes of Nile Ranger, Phil Airey and Harris Vuckic in the squad again.
Ahh the hope I hold out for some of the youngsters coming through - David Edgar who scored a worldie against Man U back in the mid 00's, I was convinced he was going to be a mainstay of our defense and ended up playing over in USA like 4 years later They've bough a few very promising youngsters this year pretty much exclusively from the UK so they are definitely looking at the long term project here. Elliot Anderson, Matt and Sean Longstaff and Dummett all qualify for next seasons CL run
Lots do. Musiala ticks the first box (Chelsea) for example. Getting/keeping 8 players who are homegrown in England isn't going to be an issue really, so that's a squad of 21 plus 4 players homegrown at club. Elliot Anderson and Sean Longstaff and gimmes, I sort of regret that we sold Woodman as having your third choice keeper in the squad be one of your HG at club players is ideal really. We could always go back to Kevin Mbabu cap in hand... (cards on the table, I always sign him on Football manager for precisely this reason).
