I've heard some of his stories about Gazza. Very funny.
I have organised a couple of sportsmans dinners for charity with top ex pros. They had Gazza experience. The stories brought the house down. Did one with John Barnes and I was chatting to him before and told him when people were buying tickets they were asking if he would tell Gazza stories. He just laughed and said he always did a Gazza section because it was what people wanted. A couple of his tales from Italia 90 were priceless.

i hope we can put the defoe story to rest until there is a definite 'yay/nay' from the club...if LJ has decided it is not to be then so be it but that wont stop all those who are already waiting to stick the knife in use it as another reason to hate LJ.

should we fail to get promoted this season then that will further fuel the fire but in all honesty, this is a massive gamlbe either way for LJ, if he says 'yay' and it takes a while for defoe to get up to speed he may take a while to get his shooting boots sorted out (18 games left and a decent strike rate is usually reckoned to be 1 in 3 so 6 goals needed from him at least) then, could he be the lone striker in this league, our players already get lumps kicked out of them can you imagine what they will do to defoe, he might not get a chance to get started...should LJ say 'nay' then there are sections of our fans that will simply despise him more rather than looking at the big picture, promotion or not.

for what it's worth, i am hardly LJ's biggest fan and every bad performance/result i think 'here we go again' and right now i just cannot get off the fence regarding him...the main positive i have taken from his tenure so far is that he somehow managed to get last seasons squad on a 15 game unbeaten run, but then we know what happened...the man has to make a choice as to what he considers is best for the club and squad in general and remove sentiment from the equation, i may not agree with his final decision but the least i can do is respect it and hope it was made for the benefit of all rather than some personal 'fear' for his own future.

Walter smiths tale about signing Gaza is brilliant

Could have been a lot better if he had the right attitude, having said that I don't think he was terrible for us.

He was one of many that we had that didn't seem that arsed about the football side of being a professional footballer.
Classic example of too much, too soon. The kid was a millionaire before he was 20

Don’t know whether to believe this to be honest.
I get it’s very short termist, but I’d personally love to see Defoe back here, even if only until the end of the season; just to get us over the line - and for purely nostalgic reasons of course.

Depends on his wages really. If they're massive I wouldn't be that keen. He hasn't played loads the last couple of years and there's no point unsettling the dressing room by bringing in a bloke in his forties on massive wages.

If he's willing to come into the existing structure I'd have him in a heartbeat.

Totally agree mate, he's 39 now and barely played in a league that is not much better than the one we're in.
No offence to Rangers because they'd hold their own in England tbf, but i honestly cant understand the meltdowns some of our fans are having to get him back here.
Too many fans letting their hearts rule their head in my opinion

If Johnson puts the block on the JD deal he is digging his own grave with the fans. It’s worth signing him just for the lift it would give the whole club.
Just because the fans want the romance of re-signing Defoe it doesn't mean that it's right for the club or even for Jermain himself. It's a lovely idea but signing a 39yo with less than 10 mins football in the last 8 months isn't really fitting in with the recruitment model we have seen in the last 12 months.

Seems to be a lot of focus on "Johnson blocking the deal" but if it isn't right then it isn't right and we need to trust the club

23 mins onwards. Not a war zone just typical Gasgoine and I’m not a rangers fan but Walter smith was just a lovely bloke

I'm going to give it a watch later, some of the stories he seems to play on these days and maybe exaggerate them a bit. So it is always good to hear them from others.

One of my favourite players to hear about is Jason McAteer, when he was asked to get a coat hanger to jemmy the door open or when he was sacked and trying to get his bike into John Barnes' car etc.
