I mean if we add Clarke from Spurs our winger options are going to be absolutely ridiculous for League One. Dajaku Roberts Clarke Mcgeady Gooch Diamond (probs get loaned back to HTFC?)
We are building a squad with an eye on the championship and beyond. No reason some of those won’t play in the prem(hopefully with us!). ourcrecruitment has been spot on this year. It’s about bloody time mind.
I'm not convinced we'll see much of McGeady in a Sunderland shirt again. He doesn't really fit the profile any more
Yeah perhaps you're right, going to be 36 before the season is out so I wouldn't anticipate him starting many games. As an option off the bench though, imagine needing a goal and bringing Mcgeady and Defoe on... A rare good signing for us during that era Mcgeady, single handedly got us to a playoff final in that last half of the Ross season and then once he came back into the fold last season under Johnson he was pretty much a guaranteed assist a game.
Looks like we finally have a backroom team that knows how football works. We are moving players on freeing up space and then bringing in better players.. so un Sunderland we normally look desperate and take 4/5th choice ....my interest is how good they are in getting new faces settled in and performing as with jan signings we have limited time .
RTG has reached PM stage, I expect bannings, offering outs and burst blood vessels to follow. And hopefully the odd Kiev recipe bandied about.
He's been brilliant for us and exactly what we needed. A little more investment in the Championship season and we wouldn't even be talking about L1. Got all the time in the world for Geeds, he's a top player but I think it's time we moved on - Pritchard, Embleton, Dajaku and hopefully Roberts are the future - young, pacy lads with the ability to pass and move
The Welsh manager begged for money for a keeper and striker... we would have stayed up. Short then wrote off £100m of debts so that sihthouse could buy us.
This is the thing I have never understood Sell us in the PL and we go for what? £200m? Cover another year of £20m losses, reinvest the Pickford money and get us back up then sell But instead he took £40m for the club and paid off £110m in debt There has to be some other story there because those numbers don't add up
With the new recruitment strategy it’s a bit off-field We have a new recruitment strategy and I would guess that this transfer doesn't quite fit into that, there will also be his fitness, wages, contract length/option and a possible coaching role. Quite a lot to agree on so I can see why it would take time. I am still confident he will sign.
I really do hope not. Any decision on 1st team players has to have the agreement of the head coach. If not it is a recipe for disaster IMO. If it were to be the case I would really question the motivation of those above Johnson making the decision. I am all for the recruitment team working as a unit and targets coming to light based on things other than a managers black book, we know that fails, but it still has to be a type of player the coach feels can have an impact, otherwise Johnson may as well not put him in the matchday squad if he doesnt want him as a player.
