So what do we need to sustain a play-off challenge - all things considered, AFCON etc. I'm saying

a Left Back
an experienced replacement for Seri in Midfield
A Striker to help take the load off Delap and Connolly - especially if AC is likely to be injured
Maybe now a Goalkeeper?

A new manager would be nice too

Someone has made a showreel on twitter - Alsopp's masterclass. Someone must have too much time on their hands this Christmas weekend.

Some of those mistakes are shocking though. If we made top six and Allsop drops one of those clangers in the semi-final or even in a final at Wembley…

A keeper’s allowed to make the odd mistake every now and then but he makes too many mistakes too often.

I'd say lb, cm and another winger before last night. If Allsop is out any length of time then probably a loan keeper as well cos we can't really go any length of time with only 1 senior keeper available.

Reactions: Gone For A Walk
He really impressed me at our place last season. Not sure Boro fans rated him too highly over the course of the season though

I like him for what we want to do. He's been in Man City's system pretty much all his career and like you say played with Boro last year so is used to it. They did concede a fair bit last year but I dont know how much that is down to him

I'd say a right back too. Christie just doesn't cut it for me and Coyle, although you can't fault his effort, commitment and desire, isn't really at the standard of some of those around him.

Botanic owner seems to be suggesting another Irish right back coming in? Ebosele with Derby link?
Thats the lad who had a worldie against us when he played for Derby... then went to Udinese... but dont think he was a full back then, maybe wing back... he's played 16 times for Udinese this season and has a value of £6 million according to Transfer Market.. "the fastest player in Serie A"

Playing today against Torino... maybe Botanics owner is drinking the profits...

Just watching the after match Liverpool/Arsenal... they were talking about what would win either of them the title... they agreed Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea are all desperate for a Number 9 and that clubs will be talking telephone numbers for them. Ivan Toney was mentioned. I said last night I hope that the club goes all out for Liam Delap, because I can honestly see him being worth triple, quadruple + what we might have to pay for him in say 3 years time.

Regarding goalkeeper situation, he wanted a keeper who is an integral part of how we play. I remember Baxter in interview saying the goalie is the decision maker in deciding when we play long or short. I think Allsopp has shown that he is exceptionally good at that. His long balls have created chaos at times, and gives teams something to think about when they are pressing and defenders then move up to fill the gaps behind the press. They use to talk about goalies dominating the box, he seems to dominate the final third. He has shown us what Liam wants from his goalie. Unfortunately, his handling has let him down recently, and that is not sustainable long term. Hopefully that could be temporary. Goalies can be out of form too. Last season every time I watched Liverpool’s highlights (which wasn’t often), Allison seemed to make a howler. Klopp stuck with him because he offers so much otherwise, and I believe he has come good again.
I do think Ingram’s performance told us more. It confirmed that he isn’t suited to this and being a brilliant shot stopper isn’t enough. Allsopp’s injury may have confused matters, but letting Ingram go and bringing someone in who has more all round ability to push or replace Allsopp should be a priority in this window. Harsh on Ingram, who overall has been great for us, but he needs to be playing regularly in the championship for a team not reliant on passing from the back. Whether the replacement is an upgrade on Allsopp or someone to push him, he needs to decide whether his recent handling is temporary.

Good post. Unfortunately those comments from the Cardiff fans would suggest it’s not just temporary.
