Absolutely.I assumed getting Oscar off the books enabled us to give us some FFP leeway (esp to sign Philo)I know it didn’t happen in that order, but was pretty clear that was the plan. He was fully expecting to get Davies in, so left us short in that area, but we have coped well so far and almost got through to January with a replacement already in place.
Not sure it would be Rosenior’s style to make a press statement saying a player’s not worth the money (especially when he’s stil our player) we are paying him and our budget is stretched as far as it will go.
Going by all the fuss about Oscar’s going, he must have had a fantastic first half of the season.

If he’s gone for FFP leeway, presumably that will result in us offloading Philogene in the summer to balance out for FFP when Oscar comes back, not having bagged us a £5m transfer fee, and his apparently astronomical wages are back on our books again?

If he comes in and manages 5 goals that make a difference, he was worth every penny.

He could be Gedo - esque. First time Brucie took us up, our promotion drive was stalling a bit around late Jan-early Feb. We then had 3 home games in 8 days. First was against Blackburn on a Tuesday night. Gedo came on at HT with the score 0-0 and scored within about 5 minutes. We went on to win 2-0. Then on the Saturday we beat Birmingham 5-2 - Gedo scored again (maybe twice). Then we played someone else that I can't remember, but Gedo scored again and we won again. Those 3 games re-ignited our promotion push.

No it’s not and if Sharp managed to do that I would be dead chuffed, but this is a guy who was probably a £100m+ goal scorer and premier league golden boot winner just 3 or 4 years ago who has only managed 6 in 18.

Does not really matter what vardy or anyone else does it is what Sharp does here at this club we can debate as much as we like or disagree with what other people and each other think, but until the man steps on to the pitch in our shirt and shows what he can do no one knows how he will do.

Me i think he will do a good job and score a few as well, he will know being an ex blunt he will have to prove himself he will also want to win the fans over that won't like he was a blunt and those who think he is past it legs gone and only scored 2 last season for the blunts.

He has more incentive to succeed also knowing his playing time is coming to an end and he may also be looking at a coaching position so he will want to prove to everyone that he is still capable.

I’m not so sure about this, Delap has spent years at what is now possibly the best football academy in the world. If you think he wasn’t taught proper finishing there and Billy Sharp is going to coach him into a goal scorer in 6 months?

Don't think it's about finishing - more about positioning and finding space in the 18 yard area

That’s more a problem with supply, Delap is nearly always a major part of the build up, in fact it’s usually him creating the space for others. Delap can find these gaps we have seen it often enough when he gets the chance to look for space. I would say the other players need to up their game.

I guess it’s what you value the most? Newer teachings aren’t always the best and sometimes it’s experience which prevails.

Remember this well. It looked like we’d unearthed a gem. I can’t recall what went wrong after those games though. Was it injury?

Well answers most questions really if Delap finds the spaces i am pretty confident sharp will be in and around where that ball is going his experience and talent will make sure he is.

Not sure. I think we signed Boyd that January and he hit the ground running as well - maybe keeping Gedo out of the team?

I don't understand this age problem.

He's 37, yet he can still run and finish like a 21 year old can. He's here for five months, on what will no doubt be a relatively low wage and has just come off the back of a pretty decent scoring spell in the MLS. Where's the issue? He isn't the only forward we're after and he had offers from plenty of other Championship clubs.

The fact he's 37 doesn't really matter if he can still do the things he is supposed to do properly. If he comes in and manages 5 goals that make a difference, he was worth every penny. I doubt he'll start games, but given our lack of forward options from the bench, it's hardly a gamble.
ST his legs have gone. He can’t run and finish like a 21 year old FFS. He’s been brought in for off the field primarily and to be a reliable option to see games out. Let’s not bullshit ourselves

Think Billy has other ideas.
That’s fine, I hope he does show his worth still, but he played a similar role in the 2nd best team in the division last season and managed 2 goals so I’m not hopeful. I’m expecting last 10 to guide us through games and be in the box for scraps. Like I say think it’s shrewd, but I’m not going to pretend we’ve signed Billy Sharp of old.

I know that's why he's brought in, but just because he's older doesn't mean he's unfit and can't run. Not all strikers are pacey, I don't think he's ever been that kind of player. If he's fit enough to play in the MLS, then he'll do fine when chucked in for us in the Championship.

Put Tufan on for that penalty and we probably win the game. It's not really as simple as saying 'if we put a good penalty taker on we'd have scored the penalty'. He'll likely come on for the last 20-30 minutes of games. We missed the pen on 60 minutes.

If he scores 4+ then I'll be happy, anything less and it'll feel a bit of a waste - depending on the context of the goals I guess.

If you refuse to acknowledge the dressing-room contribution he's primarily been brought in to make, then you're almost inevitably going to end up with the same opinion that you've pre-judged him on regardless.

He's not been brought in with the key expectation of being a double figure striker over a season - which 5 over half a season would equate to.
