I was surprised Keith didn't link him there.
They're the one club I'm worried about. They will spot a talent and a bargain and need a striker.
They're obviously a much smaller club than us but brilliant run and I wouldn't begrudge Stewart electing to go there and play regularly in the Premier League.
I just hope our stance has changed to keeping him at greater risk now that Simms is out. Don't want to break the bank but would advocate stretching it as I feel the long term financial pay off goes far beyond what a larger contract will now. We are talking £20m+

According to Nixon we are offering Stewart £10,000 per week which is almost three times his current salary.
No wonder his agent is pushing for a Premier move if thats our ceiling.
Not saying the club is wrong, but he can and should be on treble THAT.
No chance he should be on £30k, that's midtable+ Prem wages. He's had a decent year and a half, but has by no means proved himself as a Premier League level player. I'd say around £15k is probably fair, imo.

But we have not a cat in hell's chance of signing him up on that. Not a prayer.
Pre covid, the average wage for a PL player was over £20k. It will be more now. Ross is a striker, and would be signing a new PL contract. I'd be very surprised if he couldn't get comfortably over £20k a week if he left for a PL club, more if he sees his contract out. But that carries a risk of injury and of course its another year ticked off his career.
He seems a good lad, as you'd expect given what it took for him to get going in the game. But he will be twenty seven in July. Before he signed for us, he will have been earning not much at Ross County, less than many on here, clubs at that level in Scotland just don't have the cash, even for strikers.
If he gets the chance to sign say a four year deal on £20k+ a week, he has to take it. It's a keep you out of the factory for life deal, and we'd all do the same.
I have no idea what we are paying or what we can pay, and there is a good chance these scribblers don't know either. Let's hope we can keep him here and at the same time the lad can secure his future.
There is no case though, for his agent telling him to see out his current deal. It's not fair on the player, one bad injury and he'll be massively worse off than if he signed a deal. . If there is no bid that works, Ross should sign the best we can offer and get some sort of agreement regarding his future.
Not wanting to break the wage structure is one thing however selling Stewart for £10m would be an absolute joke, nearing the end of his contract or not. The damage it would do to the squad and our league standing is way more than that.

I agree with you, but its not as simple as we'd hope.
Because if selling him for £10m now is a joke, what price would you accept in the summer? At some point he leaves on a free.
I think his value could well go UP by the summer, but he's another injury away from getting bids of likely no more than £5m
EDIT - to be clear I'd be taking the risk myself, just playing devils advocate that its not quite as simple as it might seem.

I agree mate. The difference in league positions with or without Stewart could be significant. I honestly think we can make play offs with him in the side. Then who knows, but £10m or say £7 m in the summer is a non argument for me.
I honestly think if we keep him (and keep him fit) we could push for playoffs, really don’t think that will happen if he leaves. That in itself is probably worth £5m increasing the status of the club etc so attracting more players.
£10m is nothing in todays market, I’d rather get as much out of him as possible if we are going to lose him for as little as that now. He’s doesn’t seem the kind of player who would go on strike or upset the squad dynamic.
Also if our wage cap is really £10k a week, which I know is just guesswork really, we are never in a million years going to get a replacement as good on that. Pretty sure I read that the average in the championship was about £30k a couple of seasons ago.
Also if we make a good push this season who’s to say he won’t think it’s worth sticking around for the ride?
A new contract on improved wages with a release clause that can be activated in summer makes sense to me. Stewart gets improved money now with a chance to further boost his reputation and increase interest until end of season. If we go up he gets a chance to get further improved salary with us. If we don’t he gets a better deal elsewhere than he would now plus the club gets the transfer fee it wants. Agent also gets a bigger cut in summer so may be persuaded.
the LND rumours were always ready to start as a means of making news...that said, if he wants a move then he will be away.

Great news if true mate. He is worthy of £20k a week and that should be the top end of what we are offering in this league imo, if we want to be a team thatvisbatvthe top end or this league!
I mean players like Cirkin, Roberts, Clarke must be on close to 10 anyway after signing from tbe premier league?
