Just looked at the highlights and as I'd thought, none of the four goals were down to what people call 'classic centre forward play' or 'leading the line'.

I'm not saying Stewart isn't an important player but the club seem to be finding ways of avoiding building the side around one player. Mowbray is a savvy individual and he, I believe, hinted at this when he said 'we need to find different ways to score goals'.

We need to have players who can come in to make a difference in different ways, Michut, Ba, Roberts, Matete, etc. I've seen suggestions that Dajaku should be sent out on loan or moved out altogether ... I couldn't disagree more.

He's just the type of quick, dynamic forward player we can educate into playing alongside those we already have. All of this type of player will have periods when they look tired, due to our intense style, and rotation will follow imo.

I love to see Stewart start but I'm never going down the road of 'irreplaceable hero' ever again whether it's a player, manager, groundsman or kit man ...

... as KLD said, before he came here, football can be a rotten business.

We need to get used to the fact that sentimentality is for the supporters and the club has to be totally professional, even ruthless, and run the club for the club, the whole club and nothing but the club.

We've had decades of slovenly, fake, highly paid mercenaries taking the money and taking the piss, di Canio was right about that if nothing else. Give me Dajaku over Rodwell any day of the week and have SAFC in the media for all the right reasons.

Roll on Blackpool, Ha’way the Lads!!!
Great post Smug. The whole "pay them what they want" stuff does my nut in.

We have a pay structure (as any business would) and if you want more then good luck to you, go get it wherever you can and see how it turns out.

Said it before, we shouldn't get too attached to these players, they will come and go pretty quickly under thi model.

I love Rossco and think he is class and would love him to stay but some of the stuff going around about how we will be ****ed if he leaves etc is way over the top imo. With the greatest respect to him, we signed him for about 300k from Ross County as a complete unknown. He has a chance to make a few quid as does the club.

Players will always come and go. That's just football.

So has Simms definitely been recalled? Or just some journo saying it?

To be brutally honest I am not Simms biggest fan. His touch that led to their goal last night sums up my concerns about him, he hasnt yet got some of the basics sound. He has pluses and has played his part, but I think if he goes back we can do better than him.

As for Broadhead I would take him in a shot. Some of his play last year for us was class and I think he has more than enough to impact games in the championship. He is quick, can go past a man, great first touch and can finish. I would take him perm no bother and would bet there is plenty of improvement to come. If it were Simms out and Broadhead in I would be happy. Remember the club wanted him in the summer so they clearly thought 6 months ago he was a good fit. As for whether he bottled it, well only the whining Alex Neil put that out for people to think, so I doubt there is any truth in it.

We need 3 strikers still. So one more loanee would be needed.

Journo, but he’s from the Athletic. It’ll be bang on.

Most do unless there is a fee agreed at the end of it. So Amad can be recalled but I dont think PSG can recall Michut
You don't have to have a fee agreed at the end of it, you can get season long loans with no recall clause.

I'm not saying Broadhead should be The Signing that we go for above anyone else but I rated him pretty highly before and I'd be happy to have him back. I think he'd slot right in with the likes of Amad, Roberts etc.

If he's not getting a game for Wigan it probably means they don't know what they're doing.
Agree with that, I don't particularly care or judge how he's got on at Wigan tbh, all I know is he was a good fit for us. I'd have him here.

I'd take him but as "third choice", imo. Mainly due to his injury record - he simply can't be relied on as a backup when he could break down in any game.

If Broadhead comes in I'd like to see us sign another striker as well, ideally one slightly above his level.

Shame we didn't have a tighter agreement in place to prevent this. That's the danger with recall options available in any deal. That said, not sure what Everton are playing at, stinks of desperation and Simms will progress and learn more here.

Striker even more of a priority now. Given how we play, would absolutely take broadhead but that ship may have sailed with the mess about previously.

It’s a crude way of scouting and @Scout73 can hopefully offer more perspective on each of these, but looking at the EPL2 top scorers list - other options might be:

  • Layton Stewart from Liverpool (replace SAS with Stewart and Stewart)
  • Mateo Fernandez (Leeds)
  • Abu Kamara (Norwich)
  • Sonny Perkins (West Ham)
  • Dom Ballard (Southampton - yes Dom not Dan)

agree but I guess if we want the best loan players we have to take this risk. I don’t mind it frankly as it shows perspective loanees what a move here can do for you. Although I expect simms to play about 180 more minutes this season which is sad really

I think the thing about Simms is that he's pretty much a poacher in style despite his size. He's not a target man or someone like Stewart who starts the press etc.

If Everton want him to be a success, they'd have to look at partnering him with Maupay rather than replacing him.

Yeah, interesting one as from my observations , he will get eaten alive in the PL. That said, doesn't take much for some luck or fluke to get the ball rolling and confidence is an interesting thing in football.

Do you know why we have not scored from either a free kick or a corner, it's crap deliveries by Pritchard, well that's what D***sy reckons.

think it’s a combo of poor deliveries and awful set up in the box. Nobody attacks the ball. We all stand edge of 6 yard box. So easy to defend

I've always had a dislike for Lampard which was heightened by his horrible interviews as a manager. I think he's a total fake. Everton are balls deep in the relegation battle for which he blames everyone but himself despite claiming he'd rise above the previous problems.

Everton has a dreadful atmosphere around the place, with players and supporters at each others throats, and no place for an inexperienced lad who doesn't yet appear to have the necessary aggression for a dogfight.

It gave us a lift at Reading when Simms left the field ...

... I can live with him leaving the club.

Sanderson going was supposed to be a disaster that was all the fault of the club, I don't think I've heard him mentioned this season.

Agreed.

Is this not a desperate act by Everton to force our hands with Stewart. If it's true they want him they could be using Simms as bait and offering less money to try get Stewart in on the cheap and a better centre forward at there club in Stewart?

I wonder how Simms feels about all this, getting game time here, scoring goals, seems popular in the squad and now recalled to a relegation threatened Everton to probably sit in the bench and get the odd 20 minutes or not make the squad.

Even the reports about him being recalled stated it probably not what is right for his development.

Either way, he goes with my thanks for his contribution and I wish him luck, he needs a lot of work, but there is a very clever player in there that we were starting to see more and more of.

I’ve come to the conclusion that my personal opinion is that we shouldn’t sell Stewart this window - contract or no contract.

His value with 12 months left won’t be too dissimilar to now. It may drop. But it may increase. Score another 10 goals and clubs that are unwilling to gamble £10m now might see it as the bargain we know it is, and ergo we can push higher.

however I will back the club no matter what they decide to do.
