Aye. Would have been nice, wasn't to be. A lot has happened and a lot done in two years. Hopefully this deficiency is now addressed . Let's just watch the team crack on . It reminds me of the team Adamson hoyed together that year in the seventies.
Yeah, I'm pretty relaxed about it all and for the most part he's spot on. It's frustrating that we couldn't get a striker over the line late, but it was obviously a challenge before the Stewart injury to get a third in because they were going to be number 3. Ultimately, you don't want to spend money on a 3rd choice and no-one wants to loan you an asset to sit on the bench. Lihadji sounds like the Amad replacement with some potential impact off the bench this season. Ekwah is a long term signing who expect to contribute heavily once he adapts to men's football - maybe an Alese style development curve. Anderson sounds more like a project who might never be a regular but is a left footed CB and provides that cover. Gelhardt is the jewel in the crown and I think our fans are sleeping on what a good signing this is. He's going to make an immediate impact. The most impressive thing about all of this, is that 15 hours after the window has closed, Speakman has sat down for a half an hour interview to give the fans a full update and go into detail about what's happened, what our thought processes were and next steps. This kind of communication is elite.
Enjoyed the Speakman interview. For me, the part that chimed the most was the reference to not signing players who don't have the attitude or mentality that is needed to play here. I personally think the model could/should have flexed on the profile of player, given the RS injury. But I totally agree that the attitude has to be spot on and if it's not, dont even entertain it. Wouldn't of minded paying a bit over the odds on a striker who, under normal circumstances, wouldn't fit the model, if they are known to be solid pros/good influence/grafters. I'm glad, however, that the el haji diouf days are behind us. The rest of the season will be exciting and 100% entertaining. Geldhart might stay fit for the rest of the season and bang 12 in, or he might get injured in his first couple of games. That's why live sport and following your team beats any other form of entertainment, and why we're all hopelessly hooked on it. HTL
It's a chat forum for chatting ... ... not MI5. It's only a football club ffs, national security isn't at stake
Tremendous that marra. Good mention for Rigg and pragmatic Mogga. Will als issue a Speakman T? Hhhaaawwwwaaaaayyyyyyy the lads
Of course not. Why would anyone post info to strangers, on a pm, but not post to strangers on an anonymous chat forum. The gossip on here is of absolutely no interest to the club, it's just a bunch of blokes speculating and that's being polite. Bob and others have said Stewart, Pritchard, Neil, etc etc etc would be leaving and none of them have ... ... as Speakman so eloquently demonstrates the club have a million better things to do than look at the endless tittle tattle on here. Nothing ever posted on a chat forum has ever affected a single transfer ... fact.
If people choose to believe he's not I'd say they're being deliberately obtuse ... ... and are missing out on one of the best periods in the history of the club. That it's come after the dissappoinment of Short and the pantomime that followed him is even more amazing. KLD is, so far, the best owner I've known in the last half century.
TM said we were close to a midfielder on deadline day but it didn’t come off. also said we worked hard to bring in a striker, however sounds like to me we were banking on Everton signing someone to let simms out
Having sold Richarlison and Gordon for £100m you'd have banked on them signing a striker ... ... they're bottom, desperate and now with a worse squad than the one Lampard had. I'd rather be us than them tbh.
That's the problem - even the massive clubs, with all their financial power, can't bank on bring able to bring in someone with two days' notice. Clubs interested in selling don't want to be the contingency - they want a firm commitment to buy so it doesn't get switched off last second.
I listened to the Speakman interview earlier today and i'm comfortable with where we are. No panic buys, a flexible squad that would benefit from a centre forward, but will adapt. Our club is so well managed after years and years of decline
