They will do by the summer, as Maxi Gomez is moving to West Ham for £43.5m.

They're also incredibly careful financially, probably because they almost went broke a decade ago. It's not the transfer fee as much as the wages...unless he's willing to take a significant pay cut, which would be a rather un-Hoedtian thing to do, he'd be stretching their wage budget pretty significantly.

I know another club that nearly went boom a decade ago, wonder how careful they are financially ;)

They're definitely far more careful than we are on wages, heh; their 2017-18 accounts have them spending the equivalent of £25m on playing staff wages, less than a quarter of ours, which means that absorbing Hoedt's current contract terms would raise their payroll by about 12%. Their wage-to-turnover ratio

Also, Celta fans think that they're carefulling themselves out of La Liga, for what it's worth. Been reading their biggest forum on occasion to keep tabs on Boufal, and while they deserve enormous credit for paying off their debt and fielding a highly competitive side on a shoestring budget, there is more than a bit of frustration that management has maintained a fixation on maximum profitability even now that they're pretty flush.

I see the Mirror is reporting

The bid is being widely reported now. Young, quick, strong, with an eye for goal, he certainly sounds like what we need.

I found this YouTube video from a couple of seasons ago which to be fair is pretty poor in the big picture of YouTube clips. Taking the learnings from "De-Ridder-gate" this should mean he's actually very good!

So in summary, he's raw; wins lots of penalties; can shoot with both feet and is strong. I particularly enjoy the header where he takes goalkeeper and defender out with his strength. Reminds me of James Beattie. How much is he?

Given financial news on this board that I don't pretend to comprehend, do we need to start crowd funding?

His YouTube videos (I know...) remind me of Jay Rodriguez (back when we signed him) albeitbut with a bit more physicality to his game.

If we get him, I'd like to think you're right (minus career changing injury of course). Personally I always thought Jay had a good deal more finesse. But if we combine our thoughts ... Hmm. Jay Rodriguez and James Beattie in one package!

Wasn’t it reported recently that Birmingham are struggling with debt (cheers Harry) ......so surly a reasonable offer would be excepted.

Just doing a bit of research on him and apparently they rejected a £10m bid from Fulham for him, so after the season he has had so far I assume they would want a fair amount more than that.

I only know him by name, if I have seen him play I can't remember it. If it does come off then hopefully we finally have a striker who is suited to how we play and can actually score goals.

What a striker that would be :)

Whilst watching the Everton game, I found myself day-dreaming about how good J-Rod would be in this side managed by Ralph. He seems to be having a decent season and his style would suit Ralph's vision completely. J-Rod on one flank and Redmond on the other would certainly get the juices flowing!
