I want to say he was on loan last year ( him or Carvajal, maybe both) and really made some noise. I think Carvajal was at Bayer, I thought Montoya was on loan somewhere though.
I'm pretty sure he was kept at Barca - part of the reason he isn't signing a contract is he hasn't had anywhere near the games he needs.
You're spot on about Carvajal though.
Can't say I know too much about Montoya - how do you rate him? Strengths and weaknesses?

Rodgers is after a DM in the summer - Fernando Reges would be a great shout. M'Vila and Matic would be optimistic but immense options.
Would also love Ever Banega to play alongside them a well.
What do you think of Montoya? I haven't seen too much of him but coming through La Masia, and being second to Alves would indicate that he's half decent?
Banega would be special but more importantly, we need a tough tackling DM with energy.
IMO - a perfect January would be: DM, CM, RB.
Has this been confirmed? Has he actually said that he's looking for a DM? I hope so, someone who can boss the midfield, will hopefully give Lucas a kick up the arse, may get him back tog is best

A proper DM and a creative midfielder would be top priorities for January followed by a RB in the summer.
Rodgers hasn't come out and said it, but there are strong rumours that he is in the market for a DM.
We need a RB/RWB as cover or replacement for Johnson, and there are more rumours that we're interested in Micah Richards (potential Skrtel swap deal).
In addition, we had scouts at the Atletico games - possibly looking at Arda Turan.

I would be over the moon if we got Banega. Perfect alternative to Lucas.

Would you class Banega as a DM though? I would say he's more of a creative, play maker rather than just a typical 'destroyer'?
I think Banega would be complement a destroyer type DM in the middle though

I wouldn't really class him as a DM. He's not exactly a dominant force in Spain so highly doubt he'd be able to from a defensive point of view in the Premiership. No doubt he's a good player and would probably add something in the middle, more than what we have but I'd still like to see a DM who is a specialised DM but can also play a bit. They don't need to be like Coutinho but someone to Mascherano who would win the ball and do the simple thing.
Think we missed a trick not going for Benat this summer - moved to Bilbao - great player.
