BBM’s views on the January window

Cant ever remember a manager of ours so chilled about transfer windows. It would probably be different if we were struggling, but he was the same in the summer before we had a point on the board.

He's been consistent in his massaging. A tight squad, no padding, only players to improve the team. Hes not even worried about a LB.
Now, whether he says one thing to his players and the press and another to the recruitment team and board, who knows. Hes either the straight talking guy he seems, or hes a very good politician.
Dont expect many changes, but if anyone signs, they should be worth it.

On the loans, I forgot about Simic. Sounds as if hes on his way though.

By the end of Jan, we should have moved on players he doesnt want.

If we're back in the championship next year, I wonder if the message will be the same?

Do we want another 19 year old?.............................

My gut says no, but seeing what BBM has got out of youngsters, why not.
My only con ern would be, 'why send one of our youngsters out on loan to allow someone elses youngster play for us'?
He'd need to be a step up from Zac and Ashford to warrent signing him. Cant see him getting ahead of Yousef. With Tanner coming back, Id prefer an out and out left wing.

Don't think we need another striker of his stature.
We've got a variety of strikers we could use, from Yousef to Robinson to Zac. All give something different. Other than a small striker that's like $h!t off a shovel, I'm not sure what else we'd need.
He can play anywhere in the front 4, so could be used at 10 or out wide.
Given BBM says he wants a tight squad and we have Kellyman, Colwill Jnr, Robinson and Turnbull that can play 10 in Ruben's absence and what we've said about strikers. That leaves the wings. Tanner coming back, Kellyman and Ashford on the right. It's pace on the left we need. Otherwise, to meet BBM's criteria, someone needs to leave.
If we really think we're going to get promoted, a loanee doesn't help that much as its another signing we'll need to make in the summer.

I agree with much of what you say but come back to the point of calling Isaak a striker. Sorry, he is not. While he has scored a couple recently they have essentially come from his winger's position.

He lacks the close control and composure to play as a striker, even if off Salech. In the last 2 league games he has twice had clear opportunities from just inside the box, only managing to endanger the corner flag. And clearly he rarely wins a ball in the air.

I have no problem continuing to play him wide as both he and Ashford have raised their games recently. But striker, I'm afraid not.

I have my tin hat handy to ward off incomings.

As for Biancheri, I have an open mind. He's certainly not a target man but appears to be able to play all across the front line or as a no. 10. We can rely on BBM to make the right decision to determine if he fits in and where.

Wales online reporting that Bayern Munich are looking at Lawlor. The obvious link is Bellamy giving the tip to the BM manager Kompany.

Im hoping that no heads are turned in the short term.
If players move, let it be in the summer when there is a bit more time to source a replacement, be that from outside the club or within the academy.
Looking at the pipeline, CB is possibly the position we're least well placed to recruit from within.
GK and CB are positions that players usually take longer to mature. Lawlor is an exception.
We seem reasonably well placed in other positions. No 9 may be another where we're light in the 21s and 18s with regard a like for like replacement for salech. The younger strikers are effective, but quite different from him.

It would be nice if we got to the position of only needing to sign 2 or 3 players a year.

Oh, and to sell a player for a decent wedge. Its been a while.

I dont want to see Lawler go to bayern but if the offer is 25 to 30 million how can we say no. Just saying.
Every player has a price. I'm just hoping the price is higher than it has been in the past.
I was listening to Radio 5 on boxing day and one of the pundits was waxing lyrical about about BBM and the youngsters. Actually commented that a load of players left and we only signed a couple, with the rest coming from the academy. There had to be a first time.
Anyway, he went on to say that come the end of the season there would be 4 or 5 players worth £5M each. That might be optimistic, but there may be that many worth £1-5M, with Lawlor and Kpakio leading the way. I think it will take a big offer to pry those two away.

I can imagine £500k-£1M would be needed to spring Bagan, Colwill Jnr, Zac, Ashford, Fish, a bit more for Colwill Snr. It wouldn't make sense to sell any of them as it would cost more to replace them.
That's not to mention the likes of Turnbull, Robertson and Salech who we bought.

I think you are underestimating the value of those players remote. To my mind Lawlor would lead the way at around £10m, in many ways reflecting his potential and even those in the 500k -1m bracket listed must be worth between 2m to 5m

If it wasn't for his assist with Garnacho's first goal when the football world were all watching (live on Sly Sports) I reckon Lawlor could have been worth double that £10m. Did it show a little flaw when the pressure ramps up for the big games?, he's looked confident enough when donning the Welsh jersey IMO, so prospective managers may excuse one or two blips.
Personally I hope the scouts rated him 6/10 like WOL did :emoticon-0101-sadsm
