I think our biggest requirement is a goalscoring midfielder that can make things happen, someone in the Martin Rowlands mould. Rhodes was a goalscoring machine 10 years ago but he's way past his sell by date and those wages are a joke in our current context. I'd far sooner go after a loanee who has something to prove but without a service it'll be a waste of time. Dykes needs a partner to be more effective, Steve Clarke makes it work for a modest Scotland side, why can't MW?..
Dykes doesnt look like he can control the ball well enough, or quickly enough in the Championship, nor does he seem to get in the right positions. I don't watch Scottish League football, but I wonder if the ball is moved less quickly up there, and he got more time? He hasn't played more than 7 games for Scotland and scored twice.
