I think our biggest requirement is a goalscoring midfielder that can make things happen, someone in the Martin Rowlands mould. Rhodes was a goalscoring machine 10 years ago but he's way past his sell by date and those wages are a joke in our current context. I'd far sooner go after a loanee who has something to prove but without a service it'll be a waste of time. Dykes needs a partner to be more effective, Steve Clarke makes it work for a modest Scotland side, why can't MW?..

Dykes doesnt look like he can control the ball well enough, or quickly enough in the Championship, nor does he seem to get in the right positions. I don't watch Scottish League football, but I wonder if the ball is moved less quickly up there, and he got more time? He hasn't played more than 7 games for Scotland and scored twice.

He doesn't seem to have settled at Wednesday for whatever reason. He's still only thirty and the only person currently playing in English football who's scored more goals than him is ... Sergio Aguero.
It has been a while since he scored a lot.

The game is slower up here, but he caused havoc with both Rangers and Celtics' defences last season. He needs a decent strike partner as he's good at holding up the ball and laying it off for them to pounce, which is how he's had such an effect on the national side. He needs supply though, which he's not getting at the moment. He'd be great working with someone like Nakhi in the team

There are rumours doing the rounds that we're trying to sign Doncaster midfielder Ben Whiteman.

I know, but in our current situation we're not going to be able to lure in a thirty goals a season type player. If you told me last week that we'd be trying to sign Rhodes, I would've thought we'd have no chance and that we were punching above our weight.

That was on here a few days ago mate - they also want to keep Lumley, which is a no-brainer IMO, so hopefully a deal can be done ASAP

Oh, okay cheers mate. I must've missed that one. Let's hope we can sign him. He describes himself as a box to boxer.

Great stat! It's definitely the case that certain players just don't seem to settle at certain clubs, and some players seem to thrive at a new club. If we signed him I'm sure we'd all get behind him and hope he suits the style of play here and his form picks up again, but in line with other posters I'm not filled with optimism at the prospect...

Shoot me down if you like but I would take a punt on Barton who has just walked out on Fleetwood. Would bring something totally different to the club. Full of opinions and ideas that might not suit everyone but i feel like we need a different approach.

Did you read/listen to the interview with Ned that Ninesy posted?

I listen to a few pods hes been on and I thought that one day he will be a successful manager.
Well it seems he was sacked because he didn’t get on with a player. His trial for ABH after allegedly attacking another manager has been delayed by COVID-19. Seems very similar to when he was a player.

So would Rhodes do as I guess Nakhi won't be back soon? Not sure he is from memory. I agree the supply has not been good enough, but still Dykes has had chances, half chances, opportunities to get in the box when he should be there, that he's not taking, except that one early cross from BOS, great goal!, and he's not making too much for himself or others, except the one which Ball scored from, though indirectly.
