For me, I think we need Murphy, Mbuemo and Dibling. Not specifically, just we need a first choice, backup and line of succession. That should be the case in every position, it's what all the top clubs have, something Villa have done very well to establish. But Howe needs to realise that Murphy has spent 80% of his career being crap, like Almiron, and make sure we have a top end RW when next season comes.

For our squad, we have nobody I'd class as a top end first choice at RCB, GK, RW. However - and this is where it gets complicated - does Howe agree? GIven how loyal Howe stays, I'd genuinely be surprised is our first XI next season has any changes in it. If Trafford comes, he'll start on the bench. Same with Dibling. And we have a propensity to buy subs rather than upgrade the first XI and demote someone. We had Burn at LB over Hall, we had Longstaff over Tonali in midfield, Trips over Tino. The exceptions were early on in the takeover so this Summer is going to be, I think, interesting but also frustrating. Eddie has his methods and the bloke won the LC, so whilst it might make for a boring/frustrating summer, who are we to argue?

Unfortunately we're still at the being ****ed by PSR.

Murphy sold for £20m helps us and his place is with a person from u21 squad
 
Can't believe I'm going to say this, but Murphy is a very useful 'squad player', as he can cover a few positions. So I expect he will stay even IF we do buy a first choice RW in the summer.

But I do totally agree with the sentiment that he should NOT be 1st choice (nor an 'impact sub') next season, if the club gets it right this summer. Despite the purple patch he's had with goals & assists this season

We saw it with Almiron. He then reverted back to his true self. Murphy will do the same. He still goes missing in games and makes some bad.decisions. He just happens to have been involved in more goals this season.

Murphy simply needs to be upgraded, especially if we are in CL next season. But I can still see him being at the club, covering the bench.

Murphy's purple patch has far exceeded Miggy's both in time and stats. Yes, I still think we go for an upgrade but Murphy is one heck of a good back up on current form.

Fair point. I think the purple patch on my footy top (from the rum and black that was kindly shared with me) might have become permanent. So it can happen.

I think people forget that Murphy was written off years ago. And people have wanted him gone for the last 2 windows.

He’s delivered more than anyone expected.

He’s actually the third most productive player since December 5th and I’m not buying this purple patch.

Sometimes players just click and Murphy and Isak click.

Im an advocate for Murphy being a purple player now.

And as such he’s the most improved player. Under Eddie Howe.

Hats off to Eddie.

Im a reasonable guy. People need to appreciate how much Murphy brings to the table.

I find it astonishing that we want him replaced and gone. Sold.

The lad is an example of everything we want in a player.

He gives 1100% every game. I know he’s not perfect but I know who Isak wants in the trenches with him.

Imagine that. The worlds best striker wants Murphy as his wing man.

you need 2 teams to compete at the highest level as our other premiership rivals are finding out

agree mate and he’s one of our own. He is home grown for Europe aswell.

Hes important to us.

The people need to give him some respect. He’s delivering stats better than most in the PL.

And he’s a nice lad.

He will give his all every game.

Pleased with this. Everyone should appreciate his contribution.

He’s a cup winner aswell. How many players who have played for us can say that.

He is now immortal with us because he’s delivered something we all dreamed of.

And will be forever part of our history.

How can we just flippant say he’s past it.

He’s critical to our season outrun aswell.

I think we need a new RW but mainly because Murphy has no competition for his place. Lack of competition breeds complacency.

Imagine if we could get Arder Guler in. We play Murphy against teams when we need that extra defender and Guler when we need to open defensive teams up.

Getting a young RW in now means Howe has time to bed him into the squad and get him used to our way of play
