Your "massive assumption" is that he wants to stay which I'd speculate is a whole lot more idiotic given the evidence - and yours is based on the fact that he plays with passion and commitment. He gave that interview saying the players wouldn't have been sold under him. If he gave them verbal agreements that they could leave, then the interview is a lie, to make the club look bad. There can be no other explanation.

Poortvilet was not to blame for the clubs policy, we had no money

While this maybe true but sometimes you just have to back your managers decision.



Have I slated him? I just implied it's naive to put so much trust into a largely unproven manager.

I don't think anyone is putting their full trust in Koeman yet....but until he is proven wrong.....? I guess there is a little more to add to that ...do we have a choice?
We may disagree with him but we are not the ones laying their job on the line with the decisions he makes.

I'm not criticising Cortese, I am saying it takes some blame off the board with the players going(yes they still have been naive with info to the fans).

I don't think anyone would disagree the board have not done a very good job with the saints fans.
I also would and can not agree Cortese would have agreed to let Spider go at the end of the last season. For one thing they would not have known his valuation and or if any offers would have come in for him. Unless of course Cortese had a crystal ball and knew he and Pochettino were not going to continue beyond the next season.

Incidentally while Koeman may not have premier league experience he does have experience with some of the players coming in. He obviously knows their individual capabilities well. So he does have better judgement than us as to whether they can do certain jobs. While we are entitled to have our doubts none of us are being paid half a million a year to make such decisions. (Or whatever the going rate is)

Others were suggesting selling Cork was cool because (young, unproven) Reed is ready to take his place, or (young) JWP is ready to switch to an unproven position.

You also named three players who are unproven in top-flight English football. Then there is also the fact that we may have Isgrove, Gallagher, Turnbull, etc in the match day squad.

Clear as day. If our board is as wet as this, then we're doomed. I have a feeling they would more likely say "this is a squad, you fight for your place and earn it."

Others have also mentioned that we're switching to a system with one holding midfielder instead of two, and that Schneiderlin and Taider can also play there. I do think Reed is quite good and it's time to give him some time, as it goes, but we have plenty of experienced depth anyway.

Of course we know nothing, which is why we work with vaguely educated assumption based on past experience.

That's not a wet board necessarily, it may just be a reasonable board with a conscience. But as you say, WE, the fans, don't really know.
