Yes, but sometimes your team is in a more healthy position to allow these unproven players to prove themselves. On Sunday we will be without Lovren, Lallana, Lambert, Schneiderlin, Rodriguez, Shaw, and Chambers, and now you want to start giving these unproven youngsters a chance? Again, this is Jan Poortvliet type lunacy.
Sure, he sabotaged the club and then ran off to watch it burn from a safe distance. I'm sure that was his evil genius plan the whole time.
Well it's based on the fact we appear to be prepared to sell him and he seems prepared to go. Along with his dad's account. Your "massive assumption" is that he wants to stay which I'd speculate is a whole lot more idiotic given the evidence - and yours is based on the fact that he plays with passion and commitment. Like Lovren and Schneiderlin. Well done.
What unproven youngsters do you think are going to be thrown in against Liverpool? We have Forster, Clyne, Bertrand, Fonte, Yoshida, Wanyama, Schneiderlin or Taider, Davis or Ward-Prowse, Tadic, Ramirez, Pelle. Are you under the impression we've been left with just a squad of unproven youth? You're having this reaction to one rotation player leaving?
Here's my "Massive Assumption" for what it's worth - Ron - Hi Jack, we'd like to offer you a new contract. Jack - I'd like to see some more game time at this stage in my career though. I think I've done enough to deserve that. Ron - Well I can't guarantee that I'm afraid. You'll get some game time, for sure, but you're not a guaranteed starter. Jack - I need to be starting at this stage. I don't want to sign this new contract. Ron - Well we can try and find a new club for you if that's how you feel? One where you'll get more guaranteed starts. Jack - Yes, I think that's sensible under the circumstances. Ron - Okay, well we won't get in the way of an offer - you've been a great servant, and you only have a year left. So, cheers for now.... Seems pretty clear to me, but then I'm clearly seeing something different to a lot of others here.
He gave that interview saying the players wouldn't have been sold under him. If he gave them verbal agreements that they could leave, then the interview is a lie, to make the club look bad. There can be no other explanation.
No, but the general message I'd imagine wouldn't have been significantly different. Just more flowery.
Well we'll get a good idea when he goes and we either get a nice farewell message from the club or one of those passive-aggressive short statements.
Poortvilet was not to blame for the clubs policy, we had no money We have signed (or about to sign) 7 players and all are over 22
I`d keep Cork, I think he is under-rated. And since he hasn`t scored for Saints, you just know who his first goal would be against.
I don't think anyone is putting their full trust in Koeman yet....but until he is proven wrong.....? I guess there is a little more to add to that ...do we have a choice? We may disagree with him but we are not the ones laying their job on the line with the decisions he makes. I don't think anyone would disagree the board have not done a very good job with the saints fans. I also would and can not agree Cortese would have agreed to let Spider go at the end of the last season. For one thing they would not have known his valuation and or if any offers would have come in for him. Unless of course Cortese had a crystal ball and knew he and Pochettino were not going to continue beyond the next season. Incidentally while Koeman may not have premier league experience he does have experience with some of the players coming in. He obviously knows their individual capabilities well. So he does have better judgement than us as to whether they can do certain jobs. While we are entitled to have our doubts none of us are being paid half a million a year to make such decisions. (Or whatever the going rate is) How true is that........?......
Others were suggesting selling Cork was cool because (young, unproven) Reed is ready to take his place, or (young) JWP is ready to switch to an unproven position. You also named three players who are unproven in top-flight English football. Then there is also the fact that we may have Isgrove, Gallagher, Turnbull, etc in the match day squad. And it's not just Cork leaving. I mentioned the rest.
Clear as day. If our board is as wet as this, then we're doomed. I have a feeling they would more likely say "this is a squad, you fight for your place and earn it." Seriously if we've sunk to the level that we are imagining conversations, then it's time to admit we know nothing.
Others have also mentioned that we're switching to a system with one holding midfielder instead of two, and that Schneiderlin and Taider can also play there. I do think Reed is quite good and it's time to give him some time, as it goes, but we have plenty of experienced depth anyway.
Of course we know nothing, which is why we work with vaguely educated assumption based on past experience. That's not a wet board necessarily, it may just be a reasonable board with a conscience. But as you say, WE, the fans, don't really know.
