Bell end.

Did Mr Heaton write many of the lyrics to the Beautiful South's songs?
Or did someones 5 yr old dyslexic child? Frantically writing down anything that rhymed regardless of whether it made sense or not.
Lets face it, the people of Hull with their - at the time - massive inferiority complex, latched onto the Housemartins and the Beautiful South, took them to their hearts and put them on such a high pedestal you'd think Morrisey had wrote the lyrics and Harry Styles was the lead singer.
Now we have rubbed shoulders with the greats in the Premier League can we stop this false idol worship. I'm sure there are much more deserving "local" bands.

****ing pisses me off when people go on about him as being a beacon of Hullishness. Moving somewhere staying to live there for a bit doesn't make you 'one of their own'. I've lived in Leeds for 20 years but would never dream of claiming to be from there or, heaven forbid, a local.
And they sold more records then the Beatles, or something. They cannot all have been bought in Syd Scarboroughs ?Did Mr Heaton write many of the lyrics to the Beautiful South's songs?

They were a really good band IMHO...I just never saw him as one of our own.
He wrote almost all the songs and some of the lyrics are very good.
There was nothing to complain aboutI never thought it was about him, it was about the time, the place, the music and, of course, some very rare football success; some of the press made a meal of it, but what was there to complain about? Unless you're BCC.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
In a Big Sam stylie.
I absolutely love this adoration of anything remotely mod, as long as they wore the clothes. And anything remotely Hullish.
No matter how crap it is. The emperors new clothes.
Anyway(s) Is'nt Mr Heaton from the USA?
That would explain the trans atlantic drawl he adopts when singing.
Any English singer who tries to sing with an American accent is a ******.
Isnt English good enough for you? Mr Jagger, Stewart, John?
Where's Gary Clail when you need him.
disclaimer - this love of English singing accents does not endorse the likes of "the streets" and all the myriad of punk bands who thought you had to sing with a cockney accent.
When Americans want a baddie in a film they invariably use an actor with English accent.
Yet we respect and admire the American accent. Mr Hugh Lawrie?
If we don't stand up now in the very near future we will all be speaking like ******s.
Innit.
Anyways I'm off to sharpen my axe,
Now that's a weird oneHahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!

Whether he is from a different city, or supports a different football team etc, Paul heaton has done more to raise the profile of this city than any of us who post on here, especially those who slag him off.
