Reduce the booze slowly but also don’t panic - wait for your repeat blood test. The GP is likely to have done different and extra tests to try and find if this is related to booze or fatty build up in liver.

NHS have just moved the goal posts. Now the “safe” limit is 6-7 pints per week. This decision came from extensive research rather than a rigged vote of members.

But work/life/common sense balance tends to be best for us rather than sticking to stressful rules.

(Yes, that did say 6-7 pints per week )

The safe limit is an arbitrary one plucked out of thin air, and, unsurprisingly, a lower one than most places. Also, our units of alcohol are smaller than the units decreed safe elsewhere, in some cases 60% more.

Changed because of statistical "higher risk" of cancer, falling over, accidents etc. not liver problems

high ALT usually means liver damage
this can be caused by overdoing the drink but also cocaine is an efficient liver killer as is would you believe certain anti biotics as are plenty of other strong medications
ask me how I know that last one....
the liver cells repair to a degree if not abused anymore but never do the work they used to do
a bit like all of us aging old gits

try going without alcohol for 30 or 40 years and that should fix it
but when you get back on the wagon do it slowly over a decade or so

You seem to have misspelled ‘night’

Please pay more attention in future...you’ll cause widespread panic!

If the Allams contacted me and offered the best medical care in the world, no expense spared... Well you all know where I'd tell them to shove it <ok>

**** me. An Allam led NHS. It doesn’t bear thinking about. All consultants mulling over contract pay cuts. Name change to the NHS Nuggetts. All the heart patients moved into the fracture clinic and orthopaedics into dentistry. All x rays machines removed so we can’t see through their plans. Geriatrics and kids paying full prescription charges. All floors over the 1st floor closed. You can die when you want too. **** the bed, for the common good they are going to have to stay with City.

To be fair, my wife had a health scare recently. Instead of the often protracted procedure it was quickly dealt with by some state of the art equipment at Castle Hill paid for by Allam because his wife had been treated there for what they thought could be my wife's problem. In most areas she would still be awaiting the tests, never mind having it sorted out and her mind put at rest as has happened.

I went over the top with that one tbf. I'll never miss an opportunity to slag the Allams. You are perfectly right to pull me up on that and I'm glad your Missus is good, mate <ok>

    Might seem hippy **** Kemps.
But couple of easy health tips.
16/8 fasting will change your body mate for the better.
And try and squeeze in 7000-10000 steps a day.
    Plus avoid spirit and cider.

    I certainly hope not.

Side story - I was tee total until I was 41. Did an 'IronMan' which I didn't feel like at the end of it, and for which one of the items in the goodie bag was a bottle of beer (Abbots Ale). Thought, why not and haven't stopped since. And red wine ... ****ing hell. Have I got a problem?
