On the basis of who'll be sharper, the latter option. Dier and Tanganga are as fit as you can be at this stage of the season whilst Emerson played three times for Barca, including a start in his final game for them, so should be in better condition than Rodon, though hopefully Joe can get some needed minutes for Wales and then get a start against Rennes next Thursday.

Knowing our luck though, we'll be seeing Doherty in the XI.

If that’s the case then I’d appeal and be annoyed. Do we know for sure it is?

I doubt their contracts explicitly permit them to fly to countries on the red list.

The template I quoted earlier requires them to be released for international duty. Difficult to see how they can play an international match without entering the country where it is due to be played.

Not for sure but it would be surprising if their contracts had any exemptions for international duty release. If for example there was a clause saying they were forbidden to enter countries on the red list or something similar then I would be amazed.

I don't think you can fine people wages unless they do something explicitly forbidden by their contracts.

If the reports of fines are to be believed, I'd imagine the club feels it has valid ground to do so.

I'm not sure if a global pandemic comes into any contract in writing but I'd presume there's a loophole of some sorts to say, in so many words - don't be a ****ing idiot and travel to a country that's been red listed in said pandemic.

Or, at the very least, when the club say you can't play in a match don't go quarters on a private jet to play in the match

Brazil weren't the only team that Argentina were due to play.
Being released for international duty doesn't free them of all responsibility for their actions.
They've chosen to miss a series of games for Spurs. They should not be paid for that period of time.

I think they only miss one match. Certainly arguable that they shouldn't be paid if they don't report for work but that isn't the same as a fine.

    Surely they miss Rennes, too?

If they left Brazil on Sunday then ten days gets them to Tuesday or Wednesday depending when the count begins.

Boarded a plane from Brazil to Croatia on Monday night, according to Dan Kilpatrick.
Seems unlikely they'll be involved against Rennes.

Barcelona v Sevilla will not go ahead this weekend, as they had too many CONMEBOL players.
    Erm...

Depends what the restrictions are on entering France....they could go straight there.

If the club refuse to to release the players for international duty they would not be allowed to select them for a period after the end of the international break (for most clubs that is). The Argentina FA feel that they had permisión for the PL players to enter Brasil. Someone has made a huge cock up but the and a number of supporters prefer to blame the players rather than the assorted administrations
The UK could easily have given an exemption to them as they have done for various ‘ VIPs’ during the past few months but it is only Spurs and Villa so it is obviously not important

I would like to think that in the current situation I would take advice from my employer, lo celso obviously does not have any sense or worry about Covid as he already broke the rules at Christmas with the Lamalas
