We were linked with Quina in the summer after the Chavs released him, but he was asking for wages of something like £15-20k a week so we passed and he ended up signing for the Scammers.
Leipzig are utterly despised in Germany, though. Their name is a trick to get around sponsorship rules and they used another one to avoid fans having a say. They've also spent an absolute ton of money, especially for a club of their size. Imagine a cross between Chelsea and MK Dons and that's how they're viewed.
Not until Rooney has set the highest appearance count for an England player. So hurry up with that then, FA.
If Jenkinson can get an England cap anyone can! Fullback is where we're pretty strong but I'd be glad to see less fashionable players, like Smith, get a look-in. Much better than seeing a past it Glen Johnson, or a Jack of no trades Phil Jones rack up the caps. On a side note, I just checked and Phil Jones has 20 England caps! ****ing hell no wonder we're so ****
Can't wait until Rooney is no longer around. "But we've got to keep him in the squad for the experience..." chant the media chorus. Well that did us a lot of good in the last Euros, the last World Cup, the Euros before that, the World Cup before that (etc). Not that the media like to go by evidence or anything like that, for example the best performance of recent years by an England side, the win in Germany, where Rooney was nowhere to be seen. I think the last controversial (and correct) player omission / addition of recent years was so long ago it doesn't count as recent years was when Hoddle left Gazza at home. Nobody has had the guts since to do things like not play Gerard and Lampard in the same team or drop Rooney etc etc. And don't tell me Rooney not starting the last match was the same thing - he shouldn't be anywhere near the squad!
Must admit I've not read too much into them other than they were formed only a few years back and now sit joint top. I suppose money was going to be the deciding factor in their rise, realistically just like in most countries, the only way you'll topple the elite is with a big bank balance to match them.
It was obvious what was going on when, having just been promoted from the second tier, they were offering £20m for Breel Embolo during the summer.
Today's Telegraph contains an article showing which clubs have supplied the most players for full England caps. Number one, with 76 players, Tottenham Hotspur. I wonder how many came back injured?
Makes sense. We're probably the biggest club not big enough to invent injuries to previously undiscovered muscle groups.
Great-not. Vincent Janssen came off in the 27th minute with concussion. '' Meanwhile, Tottenham's Dutch striker Vincent Janssen was substituted in the first half of the 1-1 draw after suffering concussion. Janssen, who has scored four times for Spurs since a £17m summer move from Ajax, collided with Belgium keeper Simon Mignolet.''
How is that not a red card- I don't care that he is the goalie . It's reckless. He leads with his elbows.
Walker, Rose and Dier all start tonight, which is good I guess, but I will annoyed if they are picked for the friendly next week as well
