QPR bought aging established PL players and paid BIG wages. SWP, Boswinger, Barton, Zamora. Whilst we seem to be aiming to spend pretty big for a promoted club the players are young, hungry with careers in front of them. If they do fail with us they'll be stuck back in the championship with us too. Ince and Wanyama both have the potential to appreciate in value very quickly. As for Cornelius, have you seen the sort of figures being mentioned for Benteke.....?! If he starts banging PL goals in a 20yr old Danish international will be worth alot more than 8mill whatever division we're in next year.
I don't think Jenkins ever had any real interest in signing Ince. Simply feigning interest to stimulate agents to push his value artificially even higher than it already is. He should stick with Spanish bargain buckets.
And that was after a hair cut and some dental work!!! Lol!!! He will fit in very well. What's that slurping noise? I know, another window being licked.
£8mill might sound a lot until you realise how much was paid for Joe Allen ! Ince has the ability and if he comes good in the Prem he could be far better than Allen.
The Europa League is farcical. Get through your league, and you then play against teams knocked out of the Champions League. I think 3 of last season's semi finalists were losing CL teams Ludicrous. The only good thing about losing the Carling Final (against a premier league team not a 4th division one) was not having to play in the EL. City would not have romped home in the Championship last season otherwise. Swansea undoubtedly will struggle with all the football they will have to play on Thursdays and sundays.
thats why they'll be needing another 5 or 6 spaniards from the bargain bin BBVA ninian....... the reality of life buying young english players with first team experience and potential is that it costs huge money. if ince starts doing the business his value doubles, and in any case there will always be takers for players like that even if we're relegated. james milner is a good player, he went for £25m. bent £24m, phil jones £16m, and the fees paid are out of control. you can either not buy any, or pay the fees, completely up to you.
If we were to get to the finals of both League and FA Cups we would play a max 51 games (not counting any replays). If the Swans progress in the Europa Cup and did well in home trophies they could be playing 60 games plus. That is a real challenge.
The Geordies went from CL contenders to fighting to stay in the league with 4 or 5 to play. It is very gruelling and the rewards are not great until you reach QF/SF type stages. It'll be exciting for the fans 'being in Europe' but many sides have struggled with the Thursday/Sunday thing and they're not exactly starting on the back on an amazing run of form.
True, but Newcastle went backwards and the Geordie fans were complaining before the season started how Pardew didn't strengthen the team. I can see you point though, but with the signings we have made and are still trying to make I am not sure if we are in the same situation as Newcastle were.
I agree with that. You've recruited very well since being in the PL so I think you'll be ok, wouldn't be suprised if you end up bottom half but with a fair safety margin, which I'm pretty sure every member of this board would be over the moon with next season. The squad buffering you seem to be doing is obviously aimed at allowing you to compete in the EL. There's also an element of being 'found out' if you don't continually progress in the PL which makes each season harder than the last. As a little aside did you see the SSN the clips of £10m man Wilfred Bony last night? Where they normally have a couple of goals the best they could do was a clip of him falling over then spooning a great chance wide. Surely there must be a clip of him scoring somewhere on file, I think one of the production team must have been taking the piss.
Huw Jenkins - chairman of a small club talking on talkSh!te. Hes staggered because he knows financially he cant compete. He will be back in his comfort zone within a few seasons and with Europe maybe even next season if their new signings arent up to much.
I see Dwight Gayle has gone to Palace for a reported £4.5 million. I like the little guy, but if he's worth that sort of money, Ince at £8M is a steal. All stupid money I know, but for Jenkins to come out with that "staggered" comment about Ince's valuation just makes him look a parochial fool. Bargain buys from Spain may be seen to be the way forward for some, but at some point there'll be a few duds landing on these shores.
thats good chairmanship sparkey. jenkins knows the score, they have been to the point where they were on their knees begging us 10 years ago for pounds, shillings and pence to keep them in exsistance, and he's running them so that when they are relegated they will not be in a position where the save swansea fc buckets are popping up around the CCS. you either pay the £8m, or someone else will, thats how it goes. or you dont, and you sign cheap players from spain and keep believing that you'll keep striking gold..... so far its worked, will it this year? we'll see.......
My ignorance may show now but I have just read Huw has just paid 5 million up front with another million based on whatever for Shelvey. Sorry but isn't that a bit over the top?
Why are you talking about us on a thread about a "possible" Cardiff signing? Quiet in the woods?Or obsessed? On a serious note, are you happy with your comings and goings so far, lads? I cannot complain about ours (as long as we also get a striker!) PS ask any Liverpool fan if they will miss Europe this year and you will get the answer to your jealous conundrum PPS Shelvey is scary looking!
