Nuneaton v Lincoln !!! That fixture has been a powderkeg down the decades. Arab and Japanese tourists know enough to plan their visits to the Midlands avoiding that weekend.

It's said to date back to a mediaeval dispute over goat grazing. Where's Ponders when you need him?

Last seen in a car park in Leicester...

Now thought to be searching for Bishop Oddo's cassock in a mediaeval latrine in Chipping Sodbury. <laugh>

There is enough money for riot police at a Conference match??

And people say there's no room for cuts in the budget...

The club have to pay police wages for these events. They should refuse to foot the bill for shambolic policing. The person who came up with this idea, must have had an IQ of 30 or less. They blocked off the road at Harvey Gardens where it meets Charlton Lane (they didn't want fans moving along that road).

However, we all know the back streets and got onto Charlton Lane, then half headed to the station and half to their cars. When they realised what was happening, they didn't know what to do.

I witnessed the police being sworn at, and it is entirely their own fault that the home crowd got agitated.

The entire police operation was a complete success. As unpalatable as it may seem it prevented potential disorder and the cop that thought it up is probably sitting on his truncheon right now.

I think typical is just gonna disagree with anything said for the hell of it. he probably thinks Victoria beckham can sing cos a Charlton fan said she cant.

the policing yesterday was a joke, they did block that road off, everyone just went down the next road and waved at the police from behind them... while they were still there blocking

Your missing the point. The club had no say and indeed have no power in closing roads, policing, train services or even the kick off time. The police don't give a damn who the inconvenience as long as they prevent disorder. So in that regard the police operation was a success if the police wanted justification for the heavy handed zealous way they policed the game, then you could look at the hysterical reaction on other forums about this game and in particular the way some dicks at this club celebrated the way they 'took the piss' at the new den.

I think your missing the point. there's never been trouble at the valley with any fans. we usually all walk back to the train station together, on the same road with no problem. we're not like millwall, part of the day out is not having a fight after. we kinda like having all our teeth.

the police caused the disorder yesterday, if there was any. most people just wanted to go home and get away after yet another home defeat. most I saw yesterday was the odd swear word at them blocking a road that you could get on to anyway by walking a further 2 mins round the corner.

I'm trying to understand if you are accusing the police of disorder or inconvenience. There was no disorder yesterday just confusion and inconvenience.

To make your argument valid are you saying that you are convinced that letting Millwall and cafc walk up the road together would not have resulted in widespread kickings for someone after the game. I have been going to cafc for thirty years and been to Millwall more than a few times and I can absolute gaurentee it would have kicked off massively yesterday, had it not been for the rain, and the inconvenience caused by the cops.

my observations of yesterday were that the inconvenience caused disorder. people were trying to get home to be given no answer when asked "why are you blocking this exit? I can walk over there and get on to it anyway".... nothing.

I thank you greatly for your thirty years of wisdom. it is oh so appreciated on Charlton section of the forum. we all feel much better now. honestly, when have you ever heard about the home fans being inconvenienced/ penned in and the away fans given a red carpet.

this is what most people are upset about. and you being a millwall fan are only disagreeing, and some would say posting today on here, because you won yesterday. millwall took there chances and we didn't. we're not that worried about that as we always lose at home. this thread is about Charlton fans being upset that we got shafted with regards to our journey home. we don't need someone with 30 years of match day experience acting like a 7 year old and seemingly stoking the fire by playing devils advocate on every post.

    cheers for your thoughts though.

Typical,I have come to the conclusion that you say things just to get a reaction. Are you Nick Gray in disguise? Why not keep the away fans in the Stadium for twenty five minutes after the end of the game and let the Charlton fans out?I agree, sad as it is,that fans need to be segregated but that was not the way to do it.This has further alienated a lot of Charlton fans, coupled with the dire performances at home have made a lot of fans who have bought a Season ticket for many years think again. The total lack of communication from the board and the cavalier way the CUSTOMERS are treated is not the way loyal and committed fans should be treated.

Your assuming that the club made the decision then. Not the police. Have you nay evidence that the board superseded all the current legislation and closed down the roads, can you point tothe law that gives the club that power to close the queens highways. Or maybe considered that the board was acting in the best interest of safety after a compolsory risk assessment in conjunction with the police and decided that keeping the animals locked up maybe not the smartest thing to do.

It was a huge success police wise. How many Millwall were hanging around after the game? Not many at all. It takes 40 minutes at least to clear the valley and surrounding roads of 16000 cafc fans, it took just 10 to clear most of the Millwall.

i'm glad i'm not the only one who's noticed the opinion/reaction link.

i'm going with the stats on this one.

3000 happy fans with travel arrangements
15000 unhappy home fans with travel arrangements
its typically custom for the away fans to be held back (see what I did there?). name one other time home fans were upset like this before
it would have been cheaper for stewards to keep the millwall fans back
Charlton fans have never been to sort to cause trouble

statistically, it should have been better by keep the minority unhappy (ish), do it cheaper with less police presence if this had been arranged the other way round.

As stated on the OS this was a joint decision by the police and the club's safety officers. Also stated that they considered keeping the Millwall fans back, but this would have meant them missing the extra trains laid on, they would have had to rely on normal services. We really are the perfect hosts, on and off the pitch.

So that really vindicates the decision then. It was risk assessed properly and that the decision made was the correct thing to do. As I said it was unpalatable at the time but if you apply logic and reason it was a good call.

What I resent it is used by some as a another chance to attack the board.

Joke of a decision a few charltons fans kicked off down the den Millwall vow revenge (Danny dyer like ) and we bend over backwards to appease them..like the mafia complete joke.
I go back via london bridge am not familiar with the back streets around charlton as go to the valley and that's it and followed the crowds who split up in all directions and got thoroughly lost finding my way back to the station 30 mins later and to be told the next london bridge train due in 4 mins was delayed 18mins ...at least all the extra trains for Millwall fans left on time and got them away quickly and safely well pleased about that.

This suggests that the club agreed with the way this game was policed.... I am not having a go at the Board T... all I was saying was do the owners know how the club is being run?

I have now completed an assessment of me visiting the Valley next season and have decided that if the club wish to kettle me and treat me like a criminal then ..... I do not wish to pay them for the privilege <ok>
