I would either:

A. Commit suicide

B. Turn to Formula 1

C. Support Swindon Town

D. Try and start Newcastle Football Club part 2 :)
 
Would end up supporting York City or maybe Raith Rovers as they were the team in the city I was born in....

My grandad supported both, I don't think it would be long before most of the next generation would support the local club. I even went to a couple of Newcastle games with my dad and brother when I was younger. My dad is not a big football supporter, he is a fan of football and has come to the SOL a few times to watch Sunderland with my mum and me and he has really enjoyed it.
 
If either club were to go bust they both have rather large fanbases so surely a new 'phoenix club' if you like would be created?

I am a sunderland supporter through and through but I have no real hatred towards the Mags. Whether I really want them to do well I am not sure but I suspect that is jealousy as opposed to hatred.
I would be delighted if they were premier league runners up as long as we won the league.
Could I ever support them. I would find it hard but over time probably yes as I would rather be loyal to my NE roots than support a NW or SE team.
As for Middlesbrough, well thats a different matter altogether<laugh>

Well, I'm 64 ... not TOTALLY ancient! I am, and always have been a Sunderland supporter, but as a teen I went to St James one week, and Roker the other. It was a normal thing to do for a 'football' supporter. Yes, there was great rivalry, but not the mindless tribalism that we see now. Roker had the superior stadium - in those days St James was little better than a cow shed.
Not much difference between the teams either. In fact in Sunderland's first ever relegation season we finished on 32 points (42 games). Newcastle also had 32 points but a superior goal average. In those days there was not goal difference, there was goal average. The number of goals scored was divided by the number of goals conceded, producing a figure. The higher figure was the superior. And we didn't have calculators either!
