As always, Bruce was incredibly honest and generous in his praise. Not that Saints didn't deserve every word, but 99 managers out of 100 wouldn't have admitted anything to the extent he did. He's one genuine fair minded sportsman.
Well done to you guys. At the end of last season when everyone was leaving your club, I thought what is going to become of Southampton. Well you replaced your manager with someone who at this point and time has to be the manager of the season, and replaced the so called stars that deserted you with possibly even better players! You deserve all there accolades you guys get and let's hope that you can knock all the big boys off their perches. Best of luck for the rest of the season. ( except when you play us again) UTT
I've been very impressed with the number of Hull fans coming on in a sporting manner, posting their post match congratulations. Not a bitter pill in sight. Well done to them. Funny how they sort of mimic their classy manager as what he has to say in terms of graciousness
Spot on there. Compare and contrast to Stokes whinging. Looking forward to Leicester but lets not do a Man U and take them for granted.
They have a very good manager for whom I have a great deal of respect and I think we will have another tough game. It always pissed me of when fans dismissed us as if we were unimportant and not up to the mark so let us not become as equally arrogant and be dismissive of a good manager with a good team.
Funny old game! At times I thought Hull were the better side and yet they didn't really have any clear cut chances. And, even though we're a tad jaded after a tough week we could easily have scored a few more. A great game to win. I have to laugh when I see our central defenders comfortably passing between themselves. Back in the 'good' old days we'd have been screaming at them to hoof it up field. This would have been a combination of the relative footballing talents of your average centre half and the state of the pitch which were often just fields of mud.
This still frightens me, especially when the keeper gets involved and starts passing the ball across his own goal; something Boruc used to do a lot, Forster thankfully less so.
Just been discussing Saints on Sunday Supplement. One man remarked that the press were reporting that Chelsea were 9 points clear and he said, 'No, they're not. You're forgetting Southampton.' just what we've been saying. The consensus was that we were there because we deserved to be and that we hadn't just had easy games. Said we would stay there if we kept winning while everyone else was messing about. Added that we had winnable games coming up, could stay there till Xmas, then would depend on our squad fitness. Also talked about Koeman and one said Ashley had considered him as a replacement for Pardew. Said he's brought in players below the radar who had been a revelation. Mentioned our lads coming home on their private jet
Developing the idea of Koeman going to Newcastle (before he came to us, don't panic). They had just been discussing Ashley at Newcastle before our piece. Said Pardew was unusual in being able to work with Ashley who controlled far more than most owners...buying players etc. Mike Ashley apparently doesn't prioritise the Cup as they don't make money, so Newcastle put out a weakened side (and still beat City!!). He also believes in selling youngsters to balance the books...good for their finances but not what the fans want (not that we can talk). Not sure Koeman could work under a regime like that...very few managers could.
Thanks for that...could have missed it. Made the same point about Chelsea not being 9 points clear. Strachan says Southampton are getting respect and should be top 6. Gave credit to Nicola. Nice to hear how he loved it here...fans are excited in the stadium, but allow you to walk round the City without being in your face.
Always gets you by the throat...so melancholy. The poppy display at the Tower of London is thought provoking....we know the numbers lost, but become more meaningful when you can see them represented in that way. So many lost
It was mentioned that clubs are doing this for their home game nearest to Remembrance Sunday...so will be next Saturday.
Amazing isn't it? I went to Ypres and the Menin Gate earlier this year - talk about emotional and thought provoking ............... indeed
Spot on, FLT - good manager, great ethos and a very tough game won by a simply stunning strike (I love alliteration! ) - think Hull deserve bigger things, but, like us, they're destined always to be a "small club" in the eyes of the media. Let's hope we can change those small minds!!
Re my post - "Today, 01:23 PM" - WTF? Did you guys put your clocks FORWARD an hour instead of back? Or is the server located somewhere to the East of Warsaw?
