http://wall.saintsfc.co.uk/Article/865316-GOAL-Hull-City-0-1-Southampton Love the reaction from the bench to Wanyamas goal
Looking at that video, I've just realised they've underestimated Victor's distance. It's actually around 45 to 46 yards out. As we know, a football pitch is measured in yards, not metres, so if you freeze the video at an appropriate moment, you'll notice the mown areas are cut in 6 yard intervals across the pitch. So we have 6, 12, 18, etc... Victor is kicking the ball roughly in the middle of the 8th segment, so he's 3 to 4 yards in. 7 x 6 = 42 + 3/4 = 45/46 yards. That's quite a controlled strike, especially as the ball was running onto him. Very difficult to control, but he did it perfectly. Great goal.
even if it makes him sound like Jimmy Hill (I'll never forget Jimmy Hill using the "cut of the grass" to decide if a free kick should be given in a cup final). Maybe we should call TSS "Jimmy" from now on
There is an article in a paper (Telegraph?) this morning asking what is in the water on the South Coast as Saints and Bournemouth are doing so well. Chap on Sky said Portsmouth are in League 2, so I think they are being a bit selective there
Morning View on Sky (10 am) is talking Saints with Tiss. I'm off to the gym now, but will review it if no one else has posted highlights by the time I get back.
Don't believe it...the programme was in 2 parts and I didn't record all of it, so didn't get the Saints bit. They did say Chelsea had a 4 point lead...so Matt's presence must have helped. They did talk about Souness's comment that Poch was lucky at Southampton with his players. Matt said he had inherited a side at Saints that had only lost 2 in 12 games. Saints had a good recruitment department and only one player selected by MP had really worked out. Spurs squad on paper looked better, but have turned out not to be. Sorry about that lads...perhaps it will turn up elsewhere.
Just seen summary of Matt on Morning View. Nothing really new. Koeman is calm and has an aura about him. He is building from the defence and Saints have best defence in all 4 leagues and have let in 5 fewer goals than Chelsea (who are 2nd best). Brought in good players and they have hit the ground running and are even playing above themselves. Interviewed 3 fans who praised Koeman and the players for their hard work. One said Poch did well, but Koeman has carried on from there.
I agree with Lineker regarding the kit clash. Red stripes vs orange stripes, red vs orange socks and both teams in black shorts, gave me a head ache watching.
Really? Never even occurred to me until people commented on it post-match. Even then, I see no issue.
I suggested we should wear the blue kit before the match because of the clash. I found it confusing in the more distant shots.
Early in the first half there were a couple of stray passes from our boys and from the gesturing it was like they thought they got kits mixed up. I mentioned it to my son the first time. The hand gesture from whoever it was (can't remember now) looked like that was what was being suggested. Both times were just after the goal. Maybe the keeper had the same problem
