There is no way for that to happen within the FA’s own rules though. A one match ban is only for a professional foul, serious foul play is an automatic 3 match ban, there isn’t a process for “I’ve seen them given but it’s soft so we’ll meet halfway and call it a one match ban”. We’ll have had to appeal the red card decision.

FWIW, I always thought leading studs first at head height was a straight red card for endangering an opponent, but seen too many somehow get away with a yellow.

If every high boot was a straight red and 3-match ban I wouldn’t be arguing about it but the punishments are inconsistently applied across football in general.

Just when you start getting excited about a game they go and let you down . And then as on Tuesday just when you’ve mentally prepared for another battering they go and lift your spirits . City at Home? Let's hope for the long suffering home fans we get a win, fed up of walking away after another defeat. Deffinatly not fully confident more hopefully we will do it. Get behind the team, create a good atmosphere and it could just make the difference.
