Again I don’t think it was the wrong strategy. We play intense football which requires our midfielders/wingers to use a lot of energy so we bought two players to support those positions. Off we had both those players I genuinely don’t think we’d have all the defensive issues we’re now seeing.Regressed is probably a strong word but to me it seemed like early on we targeted weak positions to strengthen, in the summer it felt more like who could we get in for the price even if its a relatively stronger position for example Barnes on the left wing who I do rate.
This might of course have been budget related but it was clear to me that center back was in need of reinforcements.
Guess we’ll just never know
but then EH needed those upfield players and thought Schar could do it for another season.
